Delta picked SEA because they got the Microsoft account, by telling Microsoft they would blow it up into an International Gateway.

Oh, I was told Richard is also on the BOD of Microsoft...now you know why we've got a new international hub in SEA...and the Surface Tablets that MSFT couldn't sell.

Richard doesn't show up as a BOD member according to Microsoft's web site.

That may or may not have been a contributing factor WRT the Surface and MS accounts, but SEA goes way beyond that. It is a geographical necessity, especially with the (amazing for us!) insolence of the AS BOD/CEO.

This has far more to do with NRT and AS than MS.

CVG was always a focus city that enjoyed artificial "hub on steroids" (as Bethune once put it) but will always remain a significant focus city…unless DL gives it up to the capacity dumping yield thrashers some day.

SEA is completely different. It is a regional keystone now. A true hub out of necessity. It could almost be PDX as well, but they had to pick one and they picked SEA, probably for its higher O&D, despite its higher competition. Its a slightly better location wise as well.

SEA will never be close to being as big as ATL or NYC. But at this point I think it will be around for a very, very long time. And it will most likely grow a lot compared to today's size.
Wanna bet on that? I say within 5 years SEA will be a fond memory for you guys just like PDX, CVG, MCO & MEM. Need I say more?

No, you don't need to say anymore. We'll be OK without your input.

I think the difference may be how well the DAL Asian hub concept takes root. If they can wean enough O/D traffic away from the AS Mileage Plan, it might just work.

Why do you think AS has added so many Eastern/Central U.S. destinations in the last year? Its the only way they have a prayer of competing with Mother Delta. Unfortunately, one turn a day may not cut it.
