Default New Jumpseat Procedure for Spirit

Spirit Airlines just changed our jumpseat listing procedures. You can list yourself by going to www.spirit.com, then go to the bottom of the screen and click "Team Travel & OA Travel/Jumpseat". Then click "Other Airlines" and fill out the form. You will need the Verification Code that I sent to all the jumpseat coordinators we have an agreement with, so get it from them and list. Right now other airlines can only list 72 hours out. It works really well. It's not mandatory, but our agents may get a little upset if you're not listed when you show up to the gate. It takes less than 5 minutes, and can be done on a smart phone, so there's really no excuse not to be listed.

I emailed the moderators to get it changed on the APC Profile Page last week, but it hasn't changed yet. If you guys see it, please change it. If anyone knows a moderator, please tell them to take out the phone number, because they won't list you anymore.

Let me know what you guys think!

Thanks,

RK

Im not a fan of the AA style jumpseat procedures. It is a burden for commuters especially since trips and schedules change. The gate agents can and should be trained to accommodate "other airline" jumpseaters as and when they come to the gate. I realize jumpseating is a privilege but it shouldnt be a hassle to list for the jumpseat and it shouldnt take long for a gate agent to check in a jumpseater.

I have been burned by this online check in procedure.

The simpler the better.

I hate listing in advance for OAL jumpseating. It's also annoying when gate agents claim they can't list you at the gate. It was never an issue 10 years ago but now they act like you ruined their day. When your commute goes down the tubes and you're forced to make last minute choices, listing in advance isn't always an option. This is one of the reasons Southwest has become a complete pain to jump on. Us Airways is the best to Jumseat on in my opinion, simply fill out the form.

+1

The only way we can change this and make it like how it was; is to reciprocate this burdensome procedure to the implementing carriers.

I think the idea is to list if you can, if ya can't, no big deal just go to the gate. I have found our Gate agents are "usually" really helpful and don't mind.

I need to double check, but I believe that as an OAL Jumpseater on Spirit, once you list and get the conformation number, it is your jumpseat. Only a Spirit pilot can bump you. I am not 100% sure though, so maybe someone can chime in. If I am correct, then it would behoove everyone to list ahead of time and take some of the stress out of competing with other commuters...

No, first one at the gate wins.

Ok cool thank you for clarifying. Not sure where my info came from but I've heard a few other people say the same. Thanks.

Ron, you may want to clarify your answer. Spirit pilots DO bump OAL riders even if they listed prior. OAL-OAL is first come first serve. That's the way I understood the procedure.

You are correct, a Spirit pilot will get the jumpseat over an OAL pilot no matter what. I thought that was obvious, so I didn't mention it.

Thanks,

RK
