It looks to me like he grabbed the FA's flashlight from the E145.

Actually, if you read the first page of that article you just want to die laughing.

Wow, well, so someone tries finishing a disagreement by saying something nice like "hope to see you on the ramp in seattle" and this is your reply? Are you still perplexed at how you've been treated here? You retracted the word competent from your statement "only competent pilots use flashlights during the day", is there a word you'd like to replace it with?

Your entire demeanor leads me to ask: who do you think you are better than? See next quote...

So you finish a flight; all 3 struts have failed and your first thought is the f/o obviously missed that they were flat before departure. I have to ask the first question I'd had; how bad was your landing? Or do you genuinely believe that all 3 struts failed by natural course right before this one flight? I also must ask you noticed it post-flight, but not pre-flight? If it was a pre-flight issue as you accuse, you as captain are still responsible for noticing something that obvious... yet, so quick to blame the f/o.

You have not agreed that a light would be useful when I have given you clear examples of when it would (not just to direct your eyes). For you and your like minded friends to mock my technique is immature and counter productive. We all want agree that safety is paramount right?

I'm well aware that there several ways to skin a cat. I'm always interested in hearing other ways and sometimes adopt them in my continuing effort to hone my skills. Are you? Are you willing to admit that there are times when a light could be useful?

This all started because Buzzpat called me a tool. I guess there's nothing more to say on the matter. I've made my position clear. You've mocked me and derided me. To what end? How is your position helpful to anyone? How is buzzpat's?
Mike,

I'm fairly sure I never criticized your use of a flashlight in the daytime. I didn't mock you, or anyone else.

I don't know what you fly, or what you have to look at on your walkarond. In my opinion though, a flashlight is not useful in walking around a 757 or 767 in the daytime. I don't use one. If I thought I needed one, I would use one. I'm always open to new ideas.

That why what I criticized was your suggestion that pilots that didn't know to use a flashlight in the daytime were incompetent. We are all professionals here and part of being a professional is allowing people to make their own decisions on what is, or isn't required to do the job.

That's my position.
