More CAL Meger Stuff
http://yahoo.reuters.com/news/articl...mktNews&rpc=44
Usually I don't buy into the rumor mills and I try not to speculate or over think things. But this artlice brought some new things to light that I hadn't realized before. I'm not sure if this "Golden Share" that NWA has is good or not. Basically the fact that the general public is starting to put money into the possibility, (I know that 8% isn't enough to stop the presses or if it is even related) but that seems like it is saying something.
I know that it has been beaten into the ground repeatedly, but I'm still looking at going to CAL and trying to weigh the possibility of being furloughed against the career opportunity.
Meanwhile, anyone from FedEx looking for a new best friend?

I second that concern. And I just found out yesterday that I do know some people at CAL.
I also second the new best friend offer, or if you are full up on best friends but short on a fine scotch from the distillary...
Shameless. I know.
What are the odds, the CAL/UAL merger rumours will resurface in the coming weeks?

Stop worrying about stuff you can't control, guys. This is all rumour, speculation and industry mill-stuff. You have to make the best career decision TODAY, based on all of the available information you have TODAY, not worry about something 1-5-10 years in the future, that may be total BS anyway.
If you choose CAL, it is a good decision based on a good track record. They have a good airline.

I have two close friends who are also starting in the Dec 19th class. Looks like it is shaping up to be a class of great guys. Good luck friends and I look forward to perhaps flying together someday.

More fuel for the fire
As long as we're talking rumors, this might be a good webcast to listen to in the morning. No telling if they have anything substantial to announce or just more of the same:
UAL Corporation to Hold Investor Day on December 12, 2006CHICAGO, Dec. 5 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- UAL Corporation (Nasdaq: UAUA) announced that it will webcast its Investor Day conference on Tuesday, December 12, 2006. Presentations will begin at 9 a.m. CST and conclude by 12:30 p.m.
The meeting will feature presentations by senior UAL and United Airlines executives on the company's performance agenda of controlling costs, optimizing revenue and improving the customer experience.
The live audio webcast and the accompanying presentation materials will be available on the investor relations section of United's web site at www.united.com/ir. The webcast and slides will be archived on the website within 24 hours of the presentation and will be available for at least two weeks.

I'm in the Dec 19th class as well and scared @#$!less about this merger talk. My only thought is that IF it happens that these things take years to unfold. US Air/A. West still have not merged the list and I think they officially merged back in '04. I understand that there were US pilots furloughed before the merger but I don't know if the merger caused anymore guys to be put on the street. Hoping for the best... tomorrow there is supposed to be a big announcement.

Remember. On Dec 19 you are a non furloughed pilot at CAL with career expectations higher than a furloughed UAL guy. Don't be so sure you'd be out the door while that UAL pilot would come back first.
But this will happen, if it does, after you have at least 500 guys behind you. Welcome aboard.
