I have no debt and am well prepared to weather a few years of sub 100k. But my wife can spend 800 at supermarket in one trip and then there's the piano, dance, and gymnastic bills. I could live a lower standard of QOL but like other professionals, I've worked hard to get here and take pride in taking care of my family.

I appreciate all the positive info on this site that helps me understand the other sides of the flying business--QOL, economics, unions, lifestyle, etc. Like most on here I do it because I still want to fly--every time a plane flies overhead I still look up--can't really explain why.

As for the negative naysayers--I'm glad high school was over 30 years ago and don't think much about it. Flying for a major is Plan A right now and the timing looks promising but I have Plan B and C if/when the industry stumbles next time.

Again appreciate the positive info flow from many of you. Trying to return the favor as opportunities arise.
Well, heck...make the older ones (the ones that are driving) work to earn their keep.

DL, 25000 hours, 24500 PIC, 15000 Turbojet, 20000 IP/LCA, 6 types. Ten years later than I'd have preferred but I'll take it!

I just did the math. In my paid flying career I've got 4000 hrs in 12 years. To get to 25,000 hrs at the rate I'm going would take 37 more years! Haha. Congrats!

Yes, the 135 days and the early regional days were filled with flying. Looking forward to cutting back now!

Congratulations! I'm so happy someone with similar hours to my husband (and who likely is of similar age ) got hired by a major, I didn't think that was possible. Did you go to any prep course?

Thanks!

No prep, but had some idea of what to expect from those who interviewed before me. Inthe end I decided they either wanted who 'I' was or it was best to stay put and finish at the top of my regional.

not to be rude.....but how old are you to have that many hours? 55-60? 25000 hours!
