Interesting background, and congrats, but curious... Wouldn't a captain on a BBJ GV or Global be a highly desirable position with an excellent salary to begin with? Assuming this isn't some gig for a ME outfit, I know a capt flying similar 91 making 225 + bonus with benefits and QOL most airlines can't touch, this making the switch to 121 a big step backwards.

225k is extremely rare (sounds like a department manager salary, which comes with endless duties outside of flying on a daily basis), typically 150-165k would be the normal range for a Captain. Furthermore, knowing your schedule a month out and being able to turn your phone off or get out of town when you want is usually impossible part 91. Predictable schedules are rare as well, many times I was on a 3 day trip that would turn into 5 or 6. Or how about being on the road two weeks straight several times in my career. Even on days off there are other ancillary duties you must attend to so you are often working on something when not flying.

Also, I was employed at jobs that I thought would be retirement jobs only to have them yanked out from under me due to divorce, buyout, or lagging economy. So you may know someone in a good job today that can easily go away tomorrow. Also, there is no such thing as a seniority list or union protection. I've seen many times companies lay off out of seniority. So I think in the long run an airline career would be better. Especially in the current hiring situation. At least that is what I'm betting on!

So congrats Ricky Bobby, a huge step up. I'm sure you will have a great career and enjoy the freedom of having real days off!

Corporate aviation has been very good to me but quite simply I can't sacrifice my family anymore to live this lifestyle. Chasing a yachts around the world for weeks on end followed by a single day off can wear a person out quickly. Furthermore, job stability is something I'm desperately seeking and Southwest hopefully will provide just that along with a great culture.

While I'll take a large paycut from flying BBJ's, Globals, and Gulftstreams it will be somewhat short lived. I make what a 5-10 year FO at Southwest makes and not even close to Captain pay.

I feel extremely humbled and fortunate to join the Southwest ranks.

Interesting.

My husband works for Netjets. Days off = phone off. His 2016 7 day on, 7 day off pay will be 160ish with 4 weeks vacation.

He is constantly going back and forth about leaving for 121.

NJ is very different from a typical part 91 flight department.

Could be all the above. Ask your husband for his take on it.

Default Who's been hired?

One just needs to look at upgrade times/pay at NJA. It's a step above the regionals, but sadly lacking behind legacies and LCC's.
