I guess we needed a little extra to finance the merger.

TSA agents probably stole it while doing a "routine" security sweep.

[QUOTE=N9373M;1411024]That's about 40 pounds. My initial thought was: wow, how did they lug all that gold without getting caught.

Let's say gold is $1000/oz. 625,000/1000 = 625 oz

625/16 oz per pound = 39 pounds.
.................................................. ....................................
Gold is approx. $1400/oz, and gold is sold by the troy oz. 12 troy oz.=a pound so, that`s 37 pounds. So, the 39 pound figure is close, 9373Mike

I once signed for a shipment of 300Kgs of gold from BRU to Bordeaux. We were flying an EMB-120 so there were only 3 of us. As it happened the FA that day was one of the hottest we had and the FO was cool. For a brief moment we wondered how we could get away with it. I'm still here so I guess you know we didn't do squat.

No guards in Bordeaux.

You're still here because it's morally difficult to snuff a cool FO.

I took $210 million in $100 bills to IAH a couple months ago. It was guarded rather heavily.

Well, their timing was good. If they try this in a couple years, $ 625K of gold would probably weigh 160 lbs...
