Emirates starting JFK - Milan, Italy.

Truth be told, I would have much less heartburn with the ME airlines if the USGovt had a cogent and effective national airline policy like the ME countries (and Turkey) have in place. The mish-mash piecemeal approach has hurt ALL US airlines and the effective competitiveness of US carriers globally. If/when there is a national airline policy, then I will feel comfortable that there will be a level playing field... Until then, we need to fight the "pay-to-play" schemes and other nonsense at every opportunity.

It’s true that US airlines (and Australian too, my home country) are not on par with some carriers from Asia and the ME.
But as a frequent commuter on Alaska and occasional vacation traveler on DL, I gotta say, they are pretty good. DL long haul back to oz was actually very good and I would choose it again over CX or SQ given the choice.
My previous contract had me commuting with Alaska 3-4 times per month for 3 years and we ran late ONCE. Good food, clean jet and rather friendly CC.

I was considering a European vacation this year and had my eyes on Italy. Milan caught my attention because JFK-MXP was $655 roundtrip per person on Emirates! Delta also had the same fare, but lets be honest I'm going for the better service. So I bought my tickets on Emirates.

It wasn't a standby ticket. It's a revenue ticket so in that sense I'm a consumer shopping around. I was actually surprised at how many airlines do JFK-MXP nonstop: Emirates, Delta, Alitalia, and American, all in that order of least expensive to most expensive. If I'm buying a ticket, price is important and if that is equal, then service is the next overriding factor. It's no offense to any US legacy airline but the US service standards are much below European and Middle Eastern airlines.

Guess we can agree to disagree..... having flown about 40,000 on Emirates in the past 2 years.. and well over 100,000 on DAL... they both have plus's and minus's... generally depends on the equipment.... HATE the Emirates 777s in coach....10 abreast... yuck!! they do have a great video system... have flown DXB to ATL numerous times... hit and miss with an upgrade but I have gotten them... NEVER will you get an upgrade on Emirates.
