I'm trying to figure out how we maintain the "warm and fuzzy" with AF/KLM/AZ when they exceed capacity restraints, exceed our scope agreements and sell routes to our mortal enemies.
I mean with friends like that ... .

US carrier provide a product competitive to EK, then no worries. That ship needs to return to port however.
ALPA, or Teamsters, nor AFA can help in that area either.

I love how most the guys I fly with brag about how they are so "pro free market", conservative, Republican, and any other synonym. Then they complain when a competitor starts up a route...
I love how liberals on here get off making comparisons of apples and hamburgers.

Face palm. US based airlines would do well learning a thing or two from Emirates et al.

I read a lot about "level the plying field" or "There goes my job". Shouldn't the of "What can management do to improve our product?".
Here's a question to ponder. If the image of US airlines, the attitude of their employees towards its customers and presentation of their product were to improve, why would US carriers be in fear of losing their customer base to foreign carriers?
Think about it. Why do you think the majority of management in ME carriers are not from the US. Look at what they did to the industry here. Many may not like them, but they are achieving the goal. Present a respectable product, lure customers with the product, and hope for repeat business from said customer.

I think the point is that Emirates is basically a State run airline and so it is not "Free Market" competition.

They are a de-facto State run airline with virtually unlimited financing. They do not have anti-discrimination laws like we do, allowing them to hire only young, hot, happy to work FA's.
I am all for us providing a better product but how do you suppose we compete effectively against that?
