Wow... looks like a giant plate of spaghetti.

With all those hubs on the east coast, makes me wonder how the "synergy" will play out on the new route structure.

A lot of the "spaghetti" is bound to disappear.

And that plate of spaghetti in the Northeast is EXACTLY why the feds won't approve the deal.

I second that. LGA, DCA and to a lesser extent BOS always come up with merger proposals and these two airlines are already within the top 3 at all those airports. They would have to give up an a$$load of slots at LGA and DCA to get this thing approved. At BOS, they could consolidate in the new DL terminal and vacate the US terminal which might appease the gov't. At LGA, I assume they would consolidate at the US terminal and probably keep the MAT as well. And at DCA, I would assume they would consolidate at US's facilities.

Also, as mentioned, one shuttle operation would be divested and I have a hunch that the exces at AA would all sell their first born to pick it up. Interesting time in this biz...we'll just have to see what happens.

They're probably prepared to give up some of the slots to realize the other benefits of "synergy." There are plenty of operators who would grab at those vacated slots. Air Tran, Alaska, jetBlue are the three that spring to mind.

I like how US Airways called PIT a "hub" but not LGA or DCA. PIT is a friggin' ghost town these days for Airways compared to both LGA & DCA...

They'll also have to shed one of the DC-NY-BOS Shuttle operations. US has one, DL has one. Can you say 'Anti-Trust'? I doubt this merger will happen.
