yeah, I'm only asking because I was thinking of starting to apply soon but I don't want to apply to places like Colgan if when this merger goes through Delta decides to "do away" with all the turboprop flying and goes strictly to jets

I saw today that US Airways has put out a bid to buy Delta. They have also stated that they want to keep the Delta name. My question is, if this deal pans out, what will this do to smaller regional’s that feed US Air? Some regional’s actually own part of Us Air like Air Wisky for instance, but what about those airlines such as Colgan or others operating as US Airways Express? Will they simple go out of business? I have been holding out for a long time to apply to the right regional and I want to make sure I don't go down a road that is destined to end. I've been on these fourms for a long time and just now registered. Those that are involved or simply looking in from the outside, what are your thoughts?

In this business you either need to sh!t or get off the pot. If you wait around for things that might happen maybe sometime in the not too distant future if this that and the other take place then you will never end up doing much of anything. The best thing to do is make the best decision you can with the information you have. When I say information I mean facts. Do your best to base your decision on things you can verify, not conjecture, rumors or hearsay. Things change so rapidly in this industry that it is impossible to look more than 6mos or a year into the future and predict who's gonna be doing what with whom. Comair, ASA and ACA are great examples of how quickly things can change in this business. So I guess to answer your question about what will happen to the regionals that feed US Airways and Delta IF a merger were to go through: no one knows. Not even the CEOs of the companies involved.

THe Merger may happen the turbo props are not going away. There are too many airports served my Saabs, Dash 8s and Beeches to toss them from the system, by the time a merger would get that far you should be furghlouged from the next airline anyway. Apply away. Be dumb and a puppet Chuck will hire you.

After the first merger (Cactus-US), the company actually started recalling furloughs, not putting more people out. Can you explain what would make this case different? Just wondering.

Mr. Parker stated he expected 10% fewer seats overall. The two, well, three companies have 800+ aircraft between them. There are a lot of routes that overlap, especially on the shuttle. They are going make one huge shuttle and sell the excess. Yes, they are recalling now, but that means less hiring in the future. I don't know if 10% fewer seats equates to
10% fewer aircraft ... I'm sure somebody smarter than me will come along and clarify. They also stated no furloughs, but we've heard that one before. Good luck, all.
