The one thing I know for sure is that there is no "norm" when it comes to who airlines hire. You can go in with a lot of international and heavy-jet experience, have a great interview and not get the job, simple as that.
The other thing I don't agree with is the 1000 hrs PIC requirement. My buddy flies the MD11 for an Asian carrier, he's been flying that thing for 6 years. He wants to go Southwest, he is sick of the 10 hour legs, but he doesn't have the 1000 PIC, so he can't apply.... But they'll allow a commuter kid who flies EWR-ALB-EWR-BUF-EWR everyday apply and interview just because he has the PIC time.

Also, ask your friend how his international heavy experience is going to help him out of PHL or DCA. Fact is most of Airways flying is better suited for RJ folks, not an MD-11 in China. If he disagrees he is more than welcome to join me on a four day next month. All in the northeast, 4 or 5 legs each day.

Weird but I got a call today stating that my "rejection email" was sent to me in error and I'm still under review? Looks like they sent some of these out in mistake.
I'm sure more of these calls are going out. Helps explains why so many highly qualified applicants were rejected so quickly

7500+ 4500 PIC 3500 turbine 800 TPIC 121/135 domestic-international, no black marks, 5 year training event, masters, internal rec with a friend of 30 yrs who's a senior captain - rejection, no interview. Not to be sour grapes, I'm being honest, unless they got a halfway decent contract very soon I'd have been very unhappy there, and indeed, would have looked elsewhere.

100 indefinite; I'm glad I made your day. Yes there are tons of qualified pilots out there. I think I'm one of the tons. To me there's just virtually little logic in how the hiring goes these days. If, and if its true, that the current regional pilots are getting the interview over military or furloughed or expired carrier 121 people it does makes me wonder. Is there a plausible reason? Probably not. But if there is a regional preference it does open up some regional slots, slots that pilots who've "been there done that" can fill, sort of the pilot pipeline recycling. Sorry, with my background and age I am not going to go back to a regional - there's better things to do. Does that make me a sour grapes Yeager? And yes, after 5 years if their current contract was to stay essentially the same, I would not have been happy. Neither, I suspect, would the pilots who are already there. This is what I should have written: I would have been happy to go there and work towards that sort of improvement - I wouldn't have applied otherwise. Good luck to everyone.
