For those of you that have significant airline experience, do the hiring gurus actually slant their hiring choices in terms of what is being filled? Since the position is for the E190, it seems that high time regional guys are being picked up as opposed to people with a bit more diversified experience. Is this the norm? I know that several of my AF brethren (including myself) put in an app and have gotten the "no, thanks" letter...some of them with even more time than myself, particularly with "heavy" experience.

The one thing I know for sure is that there is no "norm" when it comes to who airlines hire. You can go in with a lot of international and heavy-jet experience, have a great interview and not get the job, simple as that.

The other thing I don't agree with is the 1000 hrs PIC requirement. My buddy flies the MD11 for an Asian carrier, he's been flying that thing for 6 years. He wants to go Southwest, he is sick of the 10 hour legs, but he doesn't have the 1000 PIC, so he can't apply.... But they'll allow a commuter kid who flies EWR-ALB-EWR-BUF-EWR everyday apply and interview just because he has the PIC time.

Yes those commuters doing 4 legs plus a day, quick turns, in and out of wx with no good ways around at times unlike the transcon routes do, multiple airports and operations simply are trash and unqualified.... I totally agree with that..... We should just DQ them all.....

Oh yeah and the above route in the winter probably is very easy.... Never heavy snow, low visibility, icing, hold over times etc to worry about to add complications to the day.....

Meyers9163, All UCL is probably trying to say, is his friend with 6 years heavy international time is just as qualified as a commuter CA, which I agree. I don't think he meant to trash commuter pilots.

Plus, they're less likely to bail to better carriers like FedEx, UPS or Delta and United once they start hiring. I think they prefer pilots gaga over an E-190 and thrilled to fly RJ routes in larger RJ's for substandard pay. TWA did the same thing in the late 80's and early 90's and was known as the place that loved commuter F/O's with little or no PIC time, so they were less likely to flee to greener pastures.

Has anyone who answered "yes" to the have you in the last five years completed an aircraft initial and qualification program question gotten hired? (with a"yes" answer based on a successful upgrade, and NOT an initial qualification?) i.e. a long term FO who recently upgraded.

Ah, now that makes complete sense (forgive me, but I am a newcomer to the airline job-chase).

Simply responding to the "commuter kid" part..... Most I tend to fly with like myself are 30+ and some of the most junior line holder Captains are nearing in on 8+ years on property......Most of them are nearing 40s and not kids

Weird but I got a call today stating that my "rejection email" was sent to me in error and I'm still under review? Looks like they sent some of these out in mistake.

I'm sure more of these calls are going out. Helps explains why so many highly qualified applicants were rejected so quickly
