Something my wife and I have planned on and done for years. Being a lifer at a regional and then getting Comair'd could also put your life in a tailspin. It's still a better bet.
However you can justify it, I suppose.

Wait until they start paying more? The DOH dummies are going to drag this out for quite a few more years, and until they retired it's going to be a mess. But when they retire, it will be a fantastic job (and is already better than any regional job) Oh... and while he's waiting, let all those people jump in and get senior to him?

I think you forget that those people hired will be younger than him and he'll be behind them the rest of his career watching them get the schedules he wants instead of if he made the jump ASAP.

By your avatar, I guess you work for UPS? Does your poor 'eastie' husband live off your shirt tails? I'm guessing that between the two of you, you're pulling in well in excess of $200K a year, so I'd say it's easy to judge others in your shoes. Not everyone can get hired at UPS or Delta, including your husband I guess.

If you were so secure in your decision to stay at Expressjet, you wouldn't feel the need to crap on someone else's thread like this. You are in a very large group of RJ captains that are in a difficult position: A little too comfortable in your seniority and pay to really have the incentive to move on.
The people that are going to US Air right now are taking a chance on the future, just like everyone else. You're betting that XJT will keep it's contracts and you'll keep your position. They are betting that US Air will get a better contract and they will advance quickly due to retirements. Right now, no one is staying on the 190 more than a year or so, and many new-hires are getting the Airbus right away.
I can understand the UPS lady looking down her nose at US Air pilots (even though her husband works there), but a guy flying a 50 seat ERJ? Can't people just take the job that suits them, and then shut the **** up?

Don't forget that AA and US are about to merge. You get on now you'll be ahead of everyone. US/AA will be the biggest airline in the world and i'm sure once a jcba is negotiated it will be on par or better than delta, it's just gonna have to be to make it work.

A legacy is ALWAYS better than an RJ job or an LCC job. There are certain limits at regional s and lcc's.

That's really precious. Why don't you ask your husband why he and his buddies refused to abide by a binding arbitration that would have settled the SLI years ago? Why he and his buddies formed a union that tossed out every section of a joint TA that was ready to go out for a vote under ALPA?

LCC has substandard wages? Look no further than your own kitchen. I hope he's doing the cooking because you obviously are bringing home the groceries.

By year two-and-a-half, do they offer assistance in filing personal chapter 7? Sad too, because my hubbie was grossing over 11k per month c. 1992.
Xjet is right; why go there with such terrible pay? Why not wait til they ponie up the money? With all these desperate souls applying, why should they!
On a side note: it makes perfect sense for an r j fo, but captain? No way.
Don't they have a CBA, pending SLI integration? Tell your eastie hubby to come off it already!

Yeah, like any of us have any self-respect left. My wife works part time and makes what I do. My sister-in-law who is a CPA works 16hrs a week and makes $110k a year. Her husband isn't US Airways, but he makes about $40k a year.

Which group does your husband belong to? Is it the DOH jihadists, the LOS group, or does he just want the NIC mitigated?
