US Airways Calls

Keep in mind the merger is going to gum things up a bit in the first part of this year, at least. Training starts are predicated not only on the need for warm bodies in the seats on the line, it is also strongly driven by training assets. Simulator time, mainly, but instructors and check airmen as well.
They may only be doing a couple of classes of 20 not because that's all they need, but because that's all they can handle... for now.
This will change. At it's peak, AA was doing 80 to 100 per month. That was pretty nice, being hired and in only a year having over 1,000 guys junior to you. It won't get that brisk, but it will get bigger, and it'll be slow and steady for a long time, I'm thinking, as retirements ramp up.

In 10 yrs they'll have to do 80/month just to keep up with retirements (AAL). Training bubble will increase that number. Normally expansion will be about 20/month. 100/month + training bubble manning requirements just to tread water. Crazy.

Dumb question. Now that the merger has been OK'd, are AA and USair still going to be hiring separately for a while, or will it merge together pretty quick?
And if that is the case, which pay scale prevails?

We're all the same pay scale, now. Both airlines pay the same. The Reserve Guarantees are going to be different until late this year or early next year, but that's it.
