I believe a321s are offsetting the 737s coming offline and the 330s are replacement aircraft for the 767s.

It would seem US Airways is adding capacity, but not airframes.

Just out from planning: no January bid.

surprised at that, you'd think they would need to shift stuff around for far 117.

They seem to put out bids every 3-4 months. Considering that there was a November bid, it's not surprising that there wasn't one in January. February or March would seem more likely. That's just based on recent behavior, though.

Makes sense for them to wait. They'll know if we're merging or not by Jan. and will be able to plan accordingly.

Look at this time last year. Planning waited until March 2013 for the big bid. In theory you want everyone in training during the 2 months leading up to the award date. That means lots of training during holiday months for a January award. I bet we wont see the big bid until March 2014. Given the extra bodies we have in each category i would assume FAR 117 has already been accounted for.

The new 321s are a one-for-one swap out with the 737s. The 5 330s were going to be growth, now 2 are growth and 3 are replacements when they part those 3 767s.

I heard this from a 767 captain at Airways. There are two rumors as to why. Namely there are 3 delayed 330 deliveries in Europe and the leasing company have US Airways substantially better leasing terms to keep the planes a bit longer.
