So true! I landed there one day and there was one guy working Tower and Ground, yet both Ramp controllers were working.

Why does Airways even pay someone to work the ramp? Seems pretty pointless to me.. Union protection?

The only way we would see a PIT base is (assuming the merger happens) via the "Satellite Domicile" proviso of the MOU/Green Book. If the merger doesn't happen, I suppose there would be some chance of obtaining a similar proviso in a standalone CBA someday. But outside that, no chance.

If the merger goes through, there is a proviso in the MOU for satellite/virtual basing as a feature of PBS. So that much is partly true. IMHO it won't help PIT commuters that much since there's just not enough mainline PIT traffic to make it work as a base, virtual or otherwise. Might help BOS and LGA folks though.

A new hire training class just started yesterday- 12 I believe. There are classes on the books, every two weeks, through the end of February. The February class is to be held in either DFW or PHX, and is TBD.

Obviously if they start doing classes in DFW and PHX that is a good sign they think the merger will go through. Do you have a source?

Yes- was told to me while I was in new hire training, just a few weeks ago : )

Details, details. If you fly a plane that may be scheduled for three pilots (including the AB320) then Cpts and FOs must maintain a 1st class every 6 months, except FOs under 40 just once a year. If on the 737 or the E190 the FOs can get their 1st class once a year.
