Might be a worse turn off when the RJ gets parked at Kingman, AZ. Regional flying is shrinking and inefficient 50 seaters are being parked. Why risk hanging onto that? US Air would still be a better option than a regional under Delta, United, or American. Obviously one has to balance all the factors, age, seniority, family, etc, but I'd take the bottom of US Airway's list over the top of any regional list.

Usairways is making record profits and performs very well in all categories customers look at (bags, on time) this is true. However, as a stand alone you're still left with two pilot groups who hate each other, no seniority list, and low pay and work rules. That may turn off some of the applicants who are rj CAs making 80k plus. Taking a paycut for a year at the new aa is one thing, but taking a paycut for the next 6 years is another. Just saying. Maybe some of the applicants who are regulars on this thread could give their opinion. Also, I don't disagree that the DOJ may not be able to stop it, but right now it's certainly a possibility.

I agree with you. Without the merger, "retirements" wont be enough to keep people from leaving and/or people from coming in the same numbers. But this is aviation, there will always be pilots willing to work for nothing in order to fly a big jet.

One of the big attractions to Airways was the merger and the MOU which would have provided Airways pilots an overnight increase in wages and work rules while waiting for a JCBA to be completed. Without the merger, they are left with the original East vs West, Nic, and low low pay.

I think what is getting people is that because this merger is more or less dead we have to deal with usapas obstructionism for another couple years. They won't get a new contract unless they accept nic and they won't accept nic. It will be another few years of loa 93. Let's hope silver rules with wisdom next month.
