Just out of curiosity, how many usairways hopefuls would lose interest if the merger falls through? ie no raises and no new contract in sight. Inlight of todays news, im thinking the super competetive pool of applicants might dry up quick. Thoughts?

You guys are being foolish. Us Airways is making money and has many many many older pilots due to retire. The Lack of a merger would not change those details. I would not worry, I dont think the DOJ is capable of stopping a $14,000,000,000.00 deal or whatever the amount is.

Usairways is making record profits and performs very well in all categories customers look at (bags, on time) this is true. However, as a stand alone you're still left with two pilot groups who hate each other, no seniority list, and low pay and work rules. That may turn off some of the applicants who are rj CAs making 80k plus. Taking a paycut for a year at the new aa is one thing, but taking a paycut for the next 6 years is another. Just saying. Maybe some of the applicants who are regulars on this thread could give their opinion. Also, I don't disagree that the DOJ may not be able to stop it, but right now it's certainly a possibility.

I agree, nobody wanted to come here prior to the merger.

I do also wonder what this will do to retirements. Some guys were sticking it out because of the mou but now I doubt many will want to deal with a nother few years of loa 93.

It's too early to make the call to be completely honest...lots of factors in play...but I am convinced it will proceed as planned sooner or later. With that said, if called by them today offering me a class date, I would be all over it based on my situation.

As far as people hanging around/applying if this merger doesn't happen... Big changes, every third lister I talked to today was updating their applications (delta, united- even spirit & atlas)... What does that tell you?

Doesn't really tell me anything. I've been applying at all of the above for well over a year now. Some of us just want out of our current jobs and don't really care one way or the other who they get hired by because any of the above would be a huge improvement over the current situation. I guess some can afford to be "picky" while others will be more than happy with anything other than status quo.
