Geez I hope not. My God imagine that....too qualified for a regional AND a major! I'm in the twilight zone!
And my HS guidance counselor said I'd never be qualified to to anything!

Maybe it has to do with age as well. I read that there was some study done for a few airlines that stated hiring pilots under the age of 32 with less than 1000 pic but more than 0 pic was the most efficient for their training.
I somewhat agree. I think it's curious that the resume posters (flight times, disclosures) keep posting on here comparing themselves with everyone else. Seriously, does it make you feel better? Did you really believe that your resume would get you an interview? Concentrate on what really counts in this business (and every other industry): Who you know. Surely you must remember someone from Usair. Have you ever been hired without knowing someone on the inside? There is no magic or formula. Getting the right people to help you takes hard work.

I agree that networking is generally the most important thing is this industry. But, that is becoming less and less of a factor as some airlines (including US Air, I believe) turn to using screening companies to find suitable candidates. I know about 25 pilots at SWA, had my resume delivered to multiple key people in the company, including the CFO. No calls. Of late, Southwest has even told me at job fairs that they have no control anymore over who gets calls for interviews. At US Air, I knew no one, no letters of rec. Interview. Who you know is often key, but it's not the key everywhere. And I don't believe that it's as strong a factor at Airways right now. Wish I could shed some light on what the current formula is to pop up on their radar. We can get some idea by looking at the credentials of the candidates that are called, but the rest is all probably speculation.

I think you guys are over thinking this, "overqualified" is not a negative.

people have ASKED on here what kind of flight times people had who applied. We are not throwing them out there to feel better or brag or whatever you want to make of it. And we don't KEEP posting them. I myself think it's nice info to know. And yes, i HAVE been hired without knowing someone on the inside, and I have SEEN it many times. I have also seen guys who are married to the chief pilot's niece or whatever NOT get a call...

There is no "good ole boy" network anymore. Outside companies do the hiring, and they call the names generated by a computer. I know guys whose dads work there, had their stuff walked in to CP office etc, no calls.

Do you remember the question that asked if you'd finished a training program within the last 5 years?

That is the filter.

Yes = phone call

No = round file

Apparently this is thought to be predictive of success in new hire training.
