Of course, you can join OBAP and Women in Aviation, International.
You don't have to be black or a woman to join, by joining your just saying "I support blacks, minorities and women in the pursuit of aviation". Ain't nothing wrong with it. And these organizations realize people join for networking reasons, and then dump it once they get a job.
I volunteer with OBAP, I like to go to schools and talk about aviation to the kids. Mentoring and encouragement is the best thing about volunteering. Honestly, I don't use OBAP to network, I don't tell anyone I'm trying to get an airline gig, WAI is different. Great bunch of people, and I'll network like crazy, especially at the WAI Conference.
I'm bummed I'm going to miss the OBAP Spring Career Fair, my wife is pushing me to go, but it's pretty expensive to just fly out to Vegas on a whim.
Good luck to those guys who are going to attend! Put your best foot forward and make a great impression!

No, hypocrisy is that the airlines SAY they are looking for the most qualified pilot but the reality is that if you don't check that box on your application then you don't get a call to interview. Unfortunately, you have to pay to play. This is not new in this industry. I had an interview way back when at Southwest. I was the perfect candidate. I didn't take the recommended oral prep for 200.00. I wasn't prepared for the exact questions and the recommended answers. I didn't get the job. A friend took the course and has happily worked there since 2005. I would be happy to go back in time and pay the 200.00

Any insight from this weekend's job fair on the significance of NOT receiving the TBNT email? All three of my apps, dated Feb 14, 23, and May 1, read "Under Review." My Feb 23 app once had the "View the Directions" link, which displayed about a week following my attendance at WAI.
While there is frustration with this process, it's not unique. I was invited to a small group meeting with AS chief pilots and HR at OBAP last August. An interview opportunity looked promising until HR informed me I didn't have an app on file, despite me showing them the AS job website indicating I had successfully applied for the FO position. I suspect the same is true with my second AS application as I neither received a TBNT or a call.

Zero trust in their application vendor. This makes me wonder whether a lot people's qualifications actually get looked at. The amounts of screw ups, mixed messages, poor feedback, etc. etc. is astounding. They reject me and say its a mistake. Then reject me again and say, well thanks. Four days later (today) I get an email: Please reapply again. BUT...you must go through this link and this link only to update your application for the new numebr. You will not be able to update your application for a new number by any other means. OK. But the link does not work. Good job, again!
