Its amazing how some guys show to up work with dockers (trying to pass them off as uniform pants), yellow shirts, ratty tie, shoes that look like they havent been polished ever...........cringe worthy sometimes....but hey, I guess they figure if they crash an airplane and are stuck in the wilderness for a few weeks, all they would need to do is suck on their tie for nourishment

ha ha I can see it now....wearing the Dockers and Doc Martins/Pumas to the interview and pulling your 1983 Trapper Keeper out of your backpack with your resume in it. Unfortunately the cabin pressure on your flight over caused you hair gel to explode all over it

Hotmamapilot, that Ex-Mesa zit faced pilot who went to AWA, well his airline actually saved the then-twice bankrupt US Airways. Had AWA not stepped in, it's very likely US Airways would have liquidated. Heck, I remember in 2003 or 2004 there were Airways guys going to AWA because they thought Airways was done for.

I made sure my uniform was in top shape and I had a successful Airways interview. I bought a new white shirt and tie. I sent everything to the cleaners the week before. I wore my coat, even though it was August and 110 in PHX. I knew that anyone wearing a regular suit to the interview would wear a jacket, so I included mine too. Instead of my regular work shoes, I broke out the highly shined dress shoes I only wear to interviews and funerals.
Bottom line, if this is the job you've been after your whole career, follow every direction and don't spare any expense. You may only have one shot.

Look your absolute sharpest. If need be, get a new jacket. It could make your career. IMO, the jacket really makes the uniform... and don't forget the most perfectly polished shoes you've ever seen.

FYI, my friend interviewed in his uniform and bought new pants and a new shirt. Everything was as crisp as it could get.
