At only one flight a day each, and over 3000 daily travelers along that route. I would say, yes we do need two slots on that route.

Sure..free market, competition, better fares. Or do you prefer mediocre service to have a monopoly?

I would prefer a service that sets ticket prices that pay for the cost of the crew, the fuel, the aircraft and the operation.

So far, that airline is not Virgin America.

So none of the major carriers, who can provide the best connection opportunities and therefore cater to the most travelers, got slots. Makes sense.

SoCentralRain: With the exception of the last quarter, our RASM is right up there with the legacy carriers. I completely agree with you our pay is too low. This place has been on a big buying spree, but I think they have been pre loading expenses into 2011 and 1st half 2012 on purpose.

lolwut: Incumbent DCA carriers were allowed to convert 1 slot to outside the perimeter rule, so they get theirs. UniCal started SFO DCA today with a 737-700 flight. Press is throwing around 3000 seats per day demand in this market, so I think the O&D traffic alone will easily fill up the 2 flights available this fall.

I'm not sure what your definition of a "major" is, but three out four of those carriers are majors according to the DOT.
