There was a post on another thread that disputes the fact that it was arbitrary. Besides, if was just an arbitrary number, why did the rest of the world follow for so long? No, this wasn't something that was just put in place with no reason. I've flown with probably a hundred guys that were approaching 60. 80% scare the crap out of me at least once during a trip.

So do you think we should adopt the European medical standards? If we do, you will put a lot of good pilots out of jobs.

Question

In what way's do the European Medical Standards differ from the FAA medical standards?

Well that's enough scientific proof for me. Just to add to your research, I've flown with over a hundred guys who were less than 60 and 80% of them scared the crap out of me, sometimes twice. Is there some point to that ignorant statement?

Now come on, lets hear it. Brag about your 20k a month. I know you want to. Talk about how you flew a Lear Jet for some crappy wage at a crappy company but never once complained about it. Come on, I know you are just itching to do it, old wise one of 37 years.

The initial exam in Europe is very thorough. And you don't walk into the doctor's office and have them ask you how much you weigh and if you feel OK and that's enough. That is what happens here in the US with some examiners.

When I got my initial check they hooked up to brain sensors and tried to determine the likelihood of an epileptic seizure. Don't ask me why... I am not a neurologist. The things they check are generally the same as here (except that one) but they are more thorough and really check these things every year. I am not trying to say one is better than the other, but the European checks I had were regularly more thorough.

Also, I am willing to listen to reason regarding the age 60 rule. I am willing to consider conditions under which 60+ pilots would continue to fly. But I think many 60 year old pilots who are totally qualified should be allowed to continue.
