Possibly...You might be right..but..does that mean that you don't deserve a chance to support your family better and strive for a better QOL?

MD-11F is a great flying machine..but..company maintenance practices, and extreamly poor scheduling ( which blatently fly into the face of the FAR's) put you in situations where you are holding the line in telling the company " No, This Aircraft is NOT going anywhere"...and you do this over and over again....ACMI flying allows little margin for error....

IE: If the WX Radar is MEL'd...If it's not VFR and clear forever along our ENTIRE flight path.....We are NOT going.....Especially over the oceanic tracks.

After a while, you just refuse trips and just walk out the door before you allow your livelyhood/Tickets to be jepordized for good...

I don't think where you're working at would prevent the call. During the interview I probably wouldn't mention FedEx though. I was totally honest during my interview, but in hindsight it was probably stupid. They asked where I had apps in and who was my first choice. I told them my dream job was Alaska Airlines, go figure they still hired me.

Can the Airways Crewmembers shed ANY light on how they decide who get the nod and who doesn't?
While you have some interesting qualifications, I don't know how close you come to fitting "the profile" of the majority of folks they have been hiring since the merger.

Most guys are coming from the regional airlines. Most of them are active CAs, but a FO will make the cut from time to time because of having the right connections.

Your TT and turbine PIC are competitive, but the MD-11 experience might be more than they are looking for. I think there have been very, very few guys hired at US Airways within the past several years with widebody/heavy time on the tracks and international (oceanic) ops experience.

Wonderful, I was 80% done with the app. Guess it doesn't matter now.

Sounds like youre at skylease cargo. Hate to deviate this thread in a usual direction, but just know that usairways wont be your big break. Probably better than skylease, but still pretty terrible.

Thanks Trent890 for your honesty..You're probably right....although I don't believe that they should blow people off because they have MD-11 experience, MNPS/NAT tracks Experience, or International Experience....

I would have thought that that Experience would count for something...After All..they also fly the Large A-330/340 to Europe....

But...I do believe you are right in your observations here.....Thanks again for the input.

That's so funny :-)

Congrats GQpilot on scoring the position.....Maybe...one day I'll get to actually talk to someone from Airways......

But..I can't promise that I won't mention Fed Ex if asked the same question you were asked. :-)

Alphonso, I worked for the company at one time but left six years ago. I don't know much about how hiring is conducted. But ...

It seems (virtually everywhere) selection is mostly done by HR types without a lot of aviation expertise. Yeah, you'll likely meet (eventually) with some flight ops types, and these folks may well have the final say - but to get in the door you'll have to meet an HR "profile" (trent890 alludes to this above). If you don't, you won't be interviewed. Your quals might well put you too far to the right on the bell curve. In their prime, Neil Armstrong and Jimmy Doolittle would have been in the same fix, so you're in good company.

You know how to get out of it - befriend someone who can hand carry your resume to someone with horsepower, someone who can say "interview this guy". Your friend either didn't, or couldn't , get your info to the right person. Also (be honest with yourself), is your friend well thought of over there? Having the "wrong" person working for you is obviously fatal. Bu**y B**en was one of my favorite people over at PI, but I wouldn't want him carrying my resume in.

Keep trying. Frankly, there are far better choices than US Airways, so don't limit yourself to one carrier.

I had the same aircraft/international quals prior to being hired, so I can attest that it's not a disqualification.
