AA pilots will NOT grant relief to the company regarding contracting back the retirees. NO WAY. They want relief, sign an effing Industry Leading Contract and stop dragging their feet. Then we'll talk. In the meantime, go right ahead and pull out of markets, you geniuses...

Seems that opening a application window and building a hiring pool would be a smart idea. My .02 cents

The local news in DFW is reporting that APA says there are 129 retirements for Oct. 1

Yep, 129 total. Management has officially asked APA for relief in today's APA press release. APA is apparently "studying it".

NO CONTRACT, NO RELIEF!!! Send your soundoffs, APA members!

Considering they have pilots on the streets, have AA pilots at Eagle, then the 230 ish that have numbers at Eagle, why the need to do this.

With the recalls bringing about 1 in 8 back to the line, the Eagle agreement will only bring a fixed number of guys across and the economy and BK threats seem to be driving out people faster than they could dream of bring them in.

It just seems logical to have a group standing by for when they need in the coming months. Having worked at AMR for 6 yrs......I know they will know they need pilots in Feb and wait until June to start interviewing, Hire in July, Start training in Aug and see the first guy hit the line in Oct!

What the hei1 was I thinking.....thats logical!

I think that was the company's proposal.

"Management informed APA late this afternoon that 129 American Airlines pilots have opted to retire as of Oct. 1.

"To mitigate the impact on the airline's schedule of the higher-than-normal number of Sept. 1 and Oct. 1 pilot retirements, management has presented APA with a relief proposal. The APA leadership is evaluating management's proposal and we will let you know once we have determined what our response will be.

"Based on the large volume of SoundOff messages we have received from members recently on this topic, it's clear that many of you are opposed to granting relief in the present circumstances. We appreciate the feedback and encourage you to continue using SoundOff to express your views to your elected representatives

But that would be planning ahead. Something most companies have a hard time doing!

You really don't have much of a choice here, either you get them to come back and fly the airplanes until their replacments are trained, or you cancel flights, lose more money, and the company will blame you, the Greedy Pilots, as they file Ch. 11.

What you (AA Pilots) need to do is the same thing we did at DAL, put restrictions on the amount of PRPs (Post Retirement Pilots) flying, and the amount of hours they can fly per month, tie it directly to bids for replacing them, at least 1 for 1, and tie it to the training pipeline, ie. put a firm end date on it, so the company has to recall and train at max. capacity until their replacements are trained, and tell the Co. they have to recall (or hire) at 1 for 1 as well.

Yes, it sucks, they should have seen this coming and got out in front of it and started posting bids and training months ago, but in 6mo. all the replacements should be trained, and just as many recalled.

If the company says, "No recalls", then you say, "OK, then No PRP's".
