TPG were major players in America West when we were in CH 11 back in 93. They made a lot of money on our turnaround, and the cost cutting was viscious. TPG is not labor friendly by any means. They are Wall Street through and through.
If you want to know if a merger is coming soon then look for the M and A attorneys. If your BOD has engaged the services of one of those type of firms then watch out - you are in for the ride.

Just heard from the Furlough Committee that AA has cancelled one of the two November recall classes due to a saturation of training slots from the massive retirements.
Let's see... massive retirements, already short on pilots, cancelling lucrative widebody flying, and reducing recalls. Can you say A Perfect Storm?

Same thing happened at Delta, except they then went to the PERP step. That's where they hired back the guys who left to fly their old seats until the replacements were trained. The argument was that the company would have to park the 777s and lose money without it. As a furloughed pilot at the time, I wasn't very happy about it, to say the least.
