Unhappy Delta MSP Training Center to close

I trained there, it's a great facility, but this was expected.

Delta announces plans to consolidate facilities - Yahoo! Finance

Hope they'll be able to keep up the training schedule in the future...bandwidth is now more limited in the training pipeline.

Default Delta to consolidate training centers

from the All Pilot Letter* --

(Letter deleted out. It is a copyrighted letter)

This will be interesting. Last time it took them almost 400 days to train A320 pilots for an AE (aircraft entitlement) that had a 210 day conversion window. This is probably why Chris Fredericks (new fleet training captain for 737 AND 320) has been pushing to modify the 320 curriculum to the Delta South standard (more home study CBT and less formalized training).

What a shame, every Delta South pilot I've flown with appreciated the "old way" of training up in MSP.

We posted the same thread at the same time. Sad to see it go. I wonder how many instructors will drop out due to the commute.

If they'd give these guys positive space and hotels they could probably keep some talent during the transition until a pool of South guys could be built up. This move concerns me as we already have crews flying these things with less than 200 hours between them, to only be taught by people even less familiar with Airbus products in general.

On an up note, this may give Delta a closer look at the 320, potentially the confidence to buy into the NEO program going forward.

The response would be different if they posted this in mid Februgly.

In one of the recent ad that talked about pilot training that they show before inflight movies, i hope the 4th floor in ATL knows the value of a good facility and the talent that the MSP sim guys bring to the table.

Now we'll all have to wear bullet proof vest and running shoes twice to training in ATL each year.

All great points...I'm all for the company being efficient and saving $$$, I just hope the unintended consequences won't bite us when 800 pilots retire each year. Remember when Mx was taken away from Memphis, then we said "Oops!" and returned it? We'll see how this goes.

Not really; been there, done that, glad I have 4-wheel drive & GPS (because everything was so white one day I couldn't see the road). Plus there is no Virginia Ave in MSP! . I was in ATL for 2 weeks for Indoc and was solicited for $$$ about 6 times.

My opinion of training is that it's a non-negotiable, fixed or increasing cost that is required. I'd rather see this company implode than operate with inadequate training.
