Airline abuse from Military guys
#81
I stand corrected
I am in total error in my statements.
I was given information WITHOUT first verifying.
I was told erronously that the military flyers
get paid for the whole month without being there.
THAT IS NOT THE CASE.
I checked my union hand book and I am in TOTAL ERROR.
According to the APA handbook I understand this:
If a pilot needs off for mil.service
4 days a month will be granted . If a pilot is on reserve
airline duty those 4 days will be granted with no charge.
If a pilot needs/requests MORE than 4 days mil. duty time.
Each day of UNAVAILABILITY will reduce his pay(out)
by 1/19 of total month pay.
As in 19 days a month available for reserve line. if you miss
2 EXTRA days then 2/19ths of your pay is reduced...and so on.
If a pilot is a line holder then he can DROP (for no pay) his trips.
He is able to make up lost hours when he can.
So There you have it .
I am in TOTAL error and accept 100% of what ever you
want to say.
I took my information as the truth and was rather
angry about the so called "preferential treatment"
I want to apologize to each and every one of the people who were
adversly affected by my writings.
I am sorry that I broadcast this misinformation.
It was wrong of me to write (basically lies) without
first finding the facts.
My apologies to all.
Now its time for me to consume the can of worms
that I have opened. and eat my hat also.

I found out about this policy (4 days paid/mo) after I got hired at UAL. Had I known, I would've pressed harder for AA. On second thought, I'd be furloughed now like my peers who went to AA. At least UAL's recalling pilots.

Bob,
Lets drop the swords for a minute.
This happens here all the time.
especially when the guys have to do their
longer drills. 2 to 4 weeks?
You are ABSOLUTELY correct that a line pilot
(that is a bid line) that drops the trips
for mil. duty will receive NO MONEY from AA.
BUT if the same mil. man is on airline reserve then
they still get the monthly guarantee.
Thats why they call it a guarantee.
Whether the pilot flys 5 hours or 73 THE PAY IS THE SAME.
Same thing for the civ. guys. all or nothing same pay.
I am upset with the guys that bid reserve and know
that they will be totally unavailabe for the 2 to 4 weeks.
As stated before their availability to fly for AA
has NOTHING to do with their guarantee.
73 hours is 73 hours.
For Gods sake if you have to fly in the military then
by all means go do it. Just don't screw me while you
are out collecting 2 paychecks for my 1
Thank you

In order to get the 73 hours for reserve a pilot must put in his requested military days with his bid. The military days cannot be more than 4 and they must be as one block. After the bids come out, if your 4 military days falls on 4 days you were suppose to be on reserve then congrats, you still get the 73 hours. However, if you change the military dates at all, then you give up pay for all days the military conflicts with your reserve schedule. If you have to take more than 4 days to cover a trip you loose the value of all days taken with the military. If you split your 4 days, you lose the value of all 4 days. So the only way a military guy is getting the full 73 hours for reserve is if he puts in just 4 days military in his bid ballot as one block and does not change them.
Maybe you should read the contract before you spout out the B.S you are saying here. I have given up lots of pay from AA in the past to perform required military training and trips.
