Airline abuse from Military guys
#41
Listen up those of you who are mad as hornets because of av8r4aa's post. He's not attacking your service. He's attacking those in the guard who, for example, will use military orders to conflict a day here and there squarely and deliberately with their schedules, and vice versa.
"My point being pick one job, either you are a airline pilot
or a military pilot not both.
I see it month in and month out, they are always shirking their
airline responsibilities"
AA pilot wants the Guard/Reserve system shut down, because you can evidently only have one employer.
I'll say it again, if an airline thinks a pilot is anywhere close to abusing mil-leave, the chief pilot will call the commander to verify his orders and their reason. At least once a month a chief pilot will call our OG just to verify that someone is not gaming the system.
Since this "check" on the system is transparent to you, you assume that we "...are always shirking our airline responsibilities."
So next time you have to cover a trip for a dude who dropped mil leave, if it looked suspicious, it probably generated a chief pilot to OG phone call and the guy ain't at home sippin' a jack n coke. He's probably at the alert shack, or flying a mil sortie, or drilling on a weekend, or serving his country in some less dramatic way.
Again, we're hiring, fill out an app if it looks appealing to you. And you get to serve your countrymen, who for the most part, are grateful for what you do.

Hey Tony,
One of those "newhires" activiated during first year was non other than an ACP's brother from American.
Guess what he did to get out of first year pay? He went to Fullajah for a long stint as an infrastructure specialist.
I guess some people would point out he didn't "pay his dues" at Fedex by skipping first year pay.
What about the 2 fighter pilots at FedEx killed last year while flying in their part time jobs? How many "bad deals" did they scam out of along the way? Those scammers--what jerks--skipping an R day here or there trying to stay sharp? More good deals for the weekend warrior crowd, right?
What some folks miss is flying 2 (or more) jets is HARD at times. To be effective at it, you need to fly 6, 8, 10 or more times a month depending on your proficiency and the nature of your squadron's missions. Going to Key West for week of DACT IS a good deal. It is also very vital training that helps keep you alive--both in training and combat. When the squadron says "hey--we've got a det on these dates..." they don't check with your ACP first to see if its a "bad time..." at Fedex. If it is...tough ****...we've got a job to do. It is very difficult to try to synch up both an airline job and a Guard flying schedule. The reality is those of us who try to do both jobs often get some grief at the Guard job too--the full time guys roll their eyes when you try to say "well...I want to do that..but I really need to fly at my airline that day/week..." Its a place where you often cannot make anyone happy. Whether or not you are flying in Mosul next month or training the guy that will be, it takes time and effort to stay sharp at both jobs. You can talk about how difficult your last line check/PC was, but those military guys have 2 checks for every one you do.
We lost 2 of our own in training last year. That alone should point out some of the difficulties of trying to do these jobs simultaneously. Next time one of you captains is out on the lake on a day off fishing or enjoying a day with family, remember that for some of us a "day off" is often just another day at work. Its work we love, work we are proud of, and work we think is very important...but dammit its still work some days. And if our holding down 2 jobs "inconveniences" you a couple times a year...well...I got nothin' for you...

Yep. I got grief from my Guard unit when I was gone for more than a month going through the Airbus training course for my airline.

AA...You are right!
Military pilots should not have to get an airline job...it is very difficult to maintain proficiency in two acft and maintain all of your ground currency (like chem warfare training).
The way it should be is that any soldier, sailor or airman that sees combat should get a $500,000 severance from the government, $500,000 from the conquered country ($ not dinars), and then another $500,000 in volunteer contributions collected from civilians we protect.
AA and Tony C, surely you guys would pony up a few bucks since you guys are not the ones dodging SAMs??
Kidding aside, I don't do it for the money. Very proud to fight in Afghanistan...a little dissappointed in the Iraq fiasco, but who knew??
AA/Tony C, still some open slots in the Army...when should they expect a phone call?
EVERY ANG/RESERVE PILOT CATCHES HELL FROM THE WIFE, AIRLINE CHIEF PILOT AND SQUADRON...You can't please them all. We do not want to hear it from whinny titty babbies.

All it takes is one person abusing the system, and it makes everyone look bad by association....Now, regardless of whether the rumor is true or false, it hurts the image of the Reservist/Guardsman. Every conscientious serviceman should himself be offended...In my opinion, anyone abusing the system is attacking both.
In my old squadron, we had a guy who would tell his airline he had Reserve Duty so he could drop a trip over Xmas. Worked fine until the day the airline called the Squadron and asked to talk to him.
Needless to say, he is no longer employed by that airline.
That is the single case I know of where someone has abused their Reserve position.

Air France Hiring
Hey AV8R4AA,
If you want to bail on AA and get away from all those military slackers "gaming the system"---I think Air France is hiring. That way you could hang out with the Frogs, bad mouth America, and be right at home. It's like the smoking Joe guys says on the WW2 poster--"How about a nice big cup of shut the F--K up, Life's tough-it's tougher when you are stupid."
tracking kill on the idiot, left turn, at sea level,
Jolly's out for knots!
