Current Southwest guys/gals
Hey guys,
Applying to SWA now, just had a few questions for guys currently over there.
I know the junior bases pretty much from reading other threads, so thanks for that info.
I'm wondering which bases do the most CMH overnights?
If there are any SWA guys that live in CMH and commute out of here, How is the commute to some of the bases? (preferably the junior ones since that is where everyone goes first, but others as well)
Any additional info from guys living in CMH would be awesome too.
Thanks in advance
Good luck everyone!

Real quick -
CMH overnights vary by base from month to month and schedule changes. No good answer there. Whatever I told you would only be a snapshot. If you live there, MDW or BWI would probably be a good bet.
Last time I checked, commuter policy is to try at least two flights prior to your report. If you can't make it, skeds will pull flights with no pay until they can get you back to to your trip.

Most commuters from CMH are MDW pilots. Looks like there are about 20 pilots from the CMH area. Most are based in MDW. The two closest bases are MDW and BWI. You can check the schedule for flights to and from CMH to these. There are more flights to MDW than BWI.

2. A pilot must attempt to commute on a minimum of two (2) consecutive scheduled flights on Southwest or off-line from the designated city. If, because of flight cancellations, delays, lack of available seating (cabin or jumpseat), or delays beyond the commuter’s control (diversion, etc.), the pilot will be unable to arrive prior to the scheduled report time, the Company will be notified immediately. Alternatively, the second scheduled flight is not required if the primary flight on Southwest is scheduled to arrive in domicile at least one (1) hour prior to check-in.

a. The Company will work with the pilot to get him back on his trip as quickly and efficiently as possible, or the pilot may be offered another assignment. If the pilot accepts another assignment, the pay for the newly assigned pairing will serve as the original pay calculation for any subsequent reassignment.
b. The pilot will not be paid for the scheduled TFP lost or deadhead to rejoin the original (not newly assigned) pairing.
c. The pilot should be prepared to verify that he was present for the two (2) consecutive flights.
d. The pilot will not be charged with a no-show, as long as he is in compliance with this Section.

There have been some recent changes to the SWA commuter policy. The 1st is the 2 flights don't have to be on SWA, they can be offline. The 2nd is that only 1 SWA flight is required if it is scheduled to arrive in base 1 hour prior to your show.
