Is that still the case or has it changed?
This hasn't been the case for at least 15 years... probably longer. Very old myth.

Glad to hear this.
It was very much a requirement in late 60's early 70's. No myth as I can personally attest.
Happy it is now removed as it was a barrier to many otherwise capable people.
Smooth skies and thanks for the reply.

Sure the navy had relaxed that? They were allowing eyesurgery to get there but last I heard they still require 20/20 without glasses.

I have yet to see many naval aviators below the rank of CAPT wearing glasses....

Yes, 20/20 without glasses is required but eye surgery is allowed, BUT make sure the surgery done is approved BEFORE having it done. There are specifics procedures authorized and, possibly, doctors performing the procedure.

Having flown in both Navy and AF since 2005, yes I'm sure. Corrected to 20/20 is the standard (20/100 for Navy uncorrected and 20/80 for the AF IIRC). Certain diopter restrictions that are waiverable for various levels of astigmatism.

The 20/20 uncorrected thing is a myth.

See above. 20/20 uncorrected is not accurate for an FC1 or FC2.

Navy started to relax in early 80s.

Depended on community and when vision degraded to less than 20/20.

Delta had uncorrected vision requirement into late 80s i believe.

Commercial at age 18 with 250+ hours
Multi and CFI at 19 with 300 hours
Start instructing at 20 with 300+ hours
Finish college at 22
Move to Regionals at 23 with 1500 hours
Apply with Majors at __ with _____ hours

First of all I want to make sure my plan is a realistic one. I also want to learn from others having experience going from student pilot to a major airline pilot and figure out what makes the most sense for today.

I'm all ears. Thanks for your advice.
UAL is now hiring flight instructors with 1500 hours through ATCA flight school. There is a thread in the UAL section about it. /End thread.

I am glad to know they have relaxed the requirement.

I started wearing glasses at age 10, but not too bad a correction. All the Military Academies wanted me in the worst way, except Air Force. Said I must have 20/20 uncorrected. (Same with Naval Academy fliers.)

So I went a different path. But that was in the old, old days. Back then, two guys that had a bicycle shop in Dayton were still giving flying lessons.
