The AirTran Pilots' Windfall and SLI

80kts clamp - if you are going to ask AKf15 about if WN has grown in the last two years. No they have not. Has any other large airline grown in the last two years or five years? Yes this thread is about WN and AirTran, but come on, do a little research and go industry wide.
WN is about to unleash alot of growth, including Hawaii (2012) and South America. If you think I am bluffing, I am not. All sectors of the company are in ETOPS initial training right now.

That's not what the 80 was talking about. SWA growth or expidited retirements are probably the only factors that will move the arbitrator(s) off a close semblance of a relative seniority ratio seniority list.

One thing is for certain. After this SLI the company may never be the same. If a 10 year FO is yanking gear for a former six year Airtran pilot, it will be tough, and even an Airtran pilot would have to admit if the shoe was on the other foot it wouldn't fit well. No matter what, the Airtran pilots will get the benefit of better QOL at SWA. More days off, cheaper and better health care, increased pay, better vacation system. It will be tough for that SWA FO not to be affected by it. All the things the Airtran merger brings to SWA pilots are benefits brought about by the synergy of the merger. Airtran pilots get these synergies and more because they also get a better contract. Imagine if Airtran had bought SWA, would they still be arguing that pre 1993 hires at SWA move to the top of the list with a ratio below that? Would straight relative seniority work for them in this instance? While it is true that SWA has not grown recently, I hope the Airtran guys understand that growth was sacrificed to stockpile the money to make this acquisition happen. I hope the pilots of both groups can come together when it is all said and done, and continue to make SWA a fun and great place to work.

Y'all better temper your expectations - that's all I have to say. Getting all p-o-ed about this and what is "right" and what is "fair" is what led to the USAir/America West debacle.
Honestly, I expected more from the SWA pilot group. Yes, I am using a broad stroke because I have not heard a SWA pilot, including the ones I know personally, say something nice about the SLI. I though SWA was all about taking care of your fellow employees - it sounds like you guys can't wait to rip the airplanes out of their hands and lamblast them for wanting to be part of "this great airline, called Southwest".

No...I'm tending to go with iaflyer, and you're being overly optimistic on the statement that time heals all wounds....they will fester for a long, long time if its done poorly.

Why don't you teach me about it then - tell me about how 1 group gets all the benefits over the other and tell me how that fits the mold of 'fair and equitable'. Also, where is the relative seniority clause located...just wondering.
You are correct about the growth of SWA over the past 2 years...Yep, pretty anemic...but -
What has the average growth of SWA been? Pretty good..Y'all paid for training and worked much harder for less. How many pilots has SWA furloughed? How many times have SWA pilots voted to strike? Never. Y'all let the rest of the industry do the work and rode our coattails.. Here are some questions for you. Just sayin...

Why not just wait for arbitration, then accept the results? All this online posturing does absolutely nothing to further your cause; it merely poisons your future work environment.

how does talking in an anonymous chat room become on line posturing?...what? the arbitrator will read these posts? As for poisoning work environment, pilots have to blow off a little steam on here since the wife or girlfriend put the "Not tonight dear" pillow out on the bed.

The arbitrator will never read these posts. What you say here will not affect the outcome of the arbitration in any way.
You may, however, be creating ill will with a guy you'll be sitting next to the cockpit in the near future. For every guy you spar with on these boards, you can bet there are 100 guys reading it and forming an opinion of your pilot group, based upon the "steam" you're blowing off.
