Same here. They are my commute almost exclusively and I'm always treated well. Every Delta employee has a bad day from time to time. When that happens you smile, crack a joke or maybe offer to get them a cup of coffee. Overall a good experience.
I've seen jumpseating pilots great treated poorly many times and in each situation they were rude, demanding and impatient.

You are a guest on their carrier and jumpseating is still a privilege. It's not your right to travel.

To clear the air, I don't want my comments to make it seem like I think all Delta pilots are a-holes. I honestly think I've had the run of bad luck to encounter that percentage. Commuting from MEM-JFK was pretty much all off-line as Delta didn't even have a non-stop on that route when I was doing the commute. MCO-JFK on Delta, it appeared that people would eat their own young to get to and from work. MCO-ATL looked even worse. I will say that I do feel I was treated differently than an off-line jumpseater. Not necessarily by the Delta pilots operating the flights, but certainly by the gate agents, since I was non-revving as an employee of a DCI carrier.

Based on my experience on both, I DO feel jetBlue has a superior product to Delta.

No worries at all! JB does not serve my commute, but I have friends who jumpseat on JB all the time. They have had nothing but great experiences with the crews. I'm glad that most of us are mature enough to realize we're all just trying to get to and from work. If I can help, I'll certainly do so.

I'm disappointed to hear you in general had bad experiences. I hope that changes in the future.

Ditto. When I used to commute to JFK, I used jetblue a lot, plus dal and AA. My opinion only...I loved the jetblue system of every open seat being a jumpseat and the hassle free "here's your boarding pass" from the agents...wow, nice. It was kind of cool to have a melting pot of commuters waiting in the gate areas for their flights to/from work. After awhile, it was something to look forward to.

I never saw anyone shank anyone else except for a 15 minute prior republic guy who thought RAH was operating the flight (it was mesaba)...I had the jumpseat and he was gloating in his own superior doucheba99ery...until he didn't get to ride. BTW, the Mesaba guy was super super sharp and through conversation, taught me a lot about the regional pilot mindset. I came away significantly converted to the non-flow-up, but instead merit hiring methodology.

Poaching NY-FL runs and red eye transcons/island turns while the industry was in the biggest tailspin in its history was one thing. I just don't see either of the soon to be "big 3" sitting back and permitting that when they all have the cashflow to bleed it out quite agressively. We'll see though.

Even if JB tries to stay low profile and initially do niche/botique routes like MCO-Bogata theres going to be a strong response. As soon as they even attempt traditional routes all 3 legacy airlines will go to the mat to see who runs out of cash first.

As for the union drive, is the theory that 330's will be introduced to break the drive? If so, why would it have that result?
Don't agree. JeBlue's model is more product and not price - and won't do routes until it comfortably determines it can succeed based on it's own feed and customer base. Customers want the product and are willing to pay the premium for it. The legacies are trying to leverage their product in upgrades to do the same for their own routes/feed. But again prices are not the primary motivating factor for 330's. The growing network and product will enable this market.

What tools beyond pricing work when JetBlue has taken pricing out of the equation? Seems like b.s. but it's true. Virgin America has demonstrated this and so have countless others.

What is the typical hire's time and quals at JB? I've got 5300 TT, 1900 PIC from both 91 and 135. 400 turbine PIC from 135. 1 type rating.

Do they just roundfile apps without a degree listed? I've got a 2 year Associate in Business and have been onlining the rest. About 9 months to a year away from finishing the full 4 year.

Would hate to miss the opportunity if things open up here this year. Gotta get outta the regional world ASAP.

sooo...JB exists because its customers pay a premium for its product...yet it is unwilling to pay a premium (or even "industry average" wages and benefits) to the employees who deliver that product.

Now there's some irony.

Blah blah blah we have heard this over and over. Until we get a CBA or a pilot exodus this wont change, your not stating anything new. Althought I agree with you I don't interject in your Delta threads (as its non of my business) please stay out of ours!!

Spot on. Too much emotion from the no voting crowd to see the reality of the situation.
