I was told SJU wants JBU to hire only locals if a crew base is added...so that could be an issue. They are looking to expand flying out of SJU and will be adding 50 new flights a day out of BOS as well as additional flying out of MCO and possible FLL. Hiring should resume later this year and next year should be a pretty good year for growth. Strictly heresay info from the training department.

I am currently SJU based with Eagle. Because our ALPA contract covers all AE bases, PR labour laws do not apply to pilots. However, since JB is non union, I would imagine that local laws would apply.(Christmas bonuses etc...) Also, at least from AE standpoint, our medical insurance is much better than the one offered in the states
Not, related to the above topic. But I hope JB does open a base down here.
Eagle SJU base is to close in March 2013. I would live to be based at home!!! ;-)

I hope to God we don't open SJU. Centralized bases provide better QOL for 99% of us.

What about LGB? Is it still just LGB or have they included LAX like they do with FLL/PBI.

According to what they told us during the interviews last Oct, SJU won't be a pilot base because it takes away from the efficiencies of the other bases. Another base means more reserves, which means more pilots and support staff which means more costs, etc, etc. They DID say it may be a FA base, though. As always, things are subject to change.
Talked to the person that's been keeping us poolies informed on the goings on the other day. So far, no hard word on when classes will resume, but it'll likely be this fall. He was able to tell me where I stand in the pool, which is in the shallow end at least. If anyone is curious where they are, I highly recommend getting in touch with him.

I love it when they claim efficiencies of other bases. MCO and FLL/PBI go north and occasionally south.
