The union vote was CLEARLY lost because of too many people being burned by ALPA national in the past. With all the mega mergers going on, a union aught to be fairly desireable right now....just gotta have a "healthy" union for the majority to vote Yes.

ALPA has a history of F---ING things up......JUST ASK ANYONE AT AIRTRAN.

And don't feed me a line of BULL$HIT that says their MEC was solely responsible. A deal that large, and ALPA national is essentially calling ALL the shots.
At least Airtran and their Pilots had a vote and a seat at the table. We however will not and will be lucky to stay employed. More then likely an acquiring carrier will keep us for the required one year after merger announcement then kick us all to the street. (check your PEA it's in there) That should be just enough time to get our replacements trained.

At first the AirTran pilots did NOT have a vote. Their MEC choose their path for them and rejected the golden offer that SWA management gave them.

Coincidentally, the AirTran ALPA mec leaders are now under protection by their company, as they have had physical threats, their cars keyed, feces placed in their v-files, etc, etc, etc. It's ugly!

It wasn't until their second offer, which was CONSIDERABLY less, that the AirTran pilots were actually able to vote, simply because they DEMANDED to. And, then the CEO of Southwest told them: "Vote no to this, and you'll be voting yourself out of a job."

Yea, try again, ALPA's history repeated itself, as they clearly HOSED the AirTran pilots.

Oh, and regarding the 1 year pay out. AS IF! AS IF, a purchasing company would buy a smaller airline, only to furlough all the trained pilots, just to train more pilots to fly the same planes. What a JOKE!! Thanks for nearly making beer shoot out of my nose as I laughed sooo hard! You goober, pilots historically go with the planes, it's all about seniority list integration my friend, of which ALPA is batting poor with that.

If you feel that insecure after 12 years of growth, why not go work for a unionized airline???

Golden offer? Stapling virtually ALL the F/Os to the bottom of the SWA list? Right.

Its called holding a gun to the AAI pilot group's head.

ALPA hosed the AAI pilots? No. The God King, aided and abetted by SWA pilots hosed the AAI guys. They threatened the AAI pilots and intimidated them into taking the 2nd offer.

The AAI pilot group would have been much better off standing firm and letting the arbitrator decide. But the SWA pilots wouldn't stand for that because they KNEW AAI guys would get either a ratio, DoH or some kind of combination of the two.

Nice try on the revisionist history, though.

Absolutely a golden offer!!!!

If your stapled to the bottom of one of the most coveted jobs in aviation, with a ridiculously high pay raise, along with work rules that will afford you more days off....you end up with a lot more money and a lot more time off. Hmmm....yup, definently a golden offer, going from everyone's last choice for an airline, to be employed by a very popular airline to work for!

No need to rewrite history, just a need for you to open up your eyes.

While you had your Captain seat stolen and your upgrade potential delayed for over a decade.

Yeah, pure gold.

Don't let your "ALPA hate" get you carried away.

So were you at US Air or TWA? I've yet to have any pilot from a major airline say they want the dr instead of a TWA. ALPA is far from perfect but we need representation yesterday. 1193 voted no and 857 voted yes. That's a difference of 336 pilots. Divide that by 2 and next time all we need is 167 more yes voters. It's coming soon wether you like it or not.

First of all If you signed the 5 Docs it is no longer a one year payout (presumably 1 years pay for no work) now you just have to be kept on property for one year after a merger is announced then you can be let go. How long does it typicaly take to get a merger done? More then a year thats for sure. Your right it's not like the most logical merger canidate for us has say 1800 pilots on furlough. In addition if we were to get tied up with American not only would we have to contend with APA and the American pilots you can bet the farm that Eagle Pilots and Alpa would be somehow involved. They have all been guaranteed an eventual spot at American. So that would be fun trying to negotiate (if we were to be allowed in the room) with our individual PEA's and our $2000/per pilot. We work in a CBA and Union world and without one in a merger scenario we will be in for a world of hurt.

This is a direct quote from the APA Flightline Magazine; enough said.

The ramifications of the legislation (McCaskill-Bond) for APA are significant....Simply put, in the event of a future merger or acquisition, we will HAVE to arbitrate the seniority integration — it is now the “law of the land.”
