The president of ALPA did say JetBlue pilots would not be charged an assement. He stated clearly though the bylaws allow for it, as they do for many out dated items, it was not past practice to do so considering ALPA had ample insurance policies to cover any award YET to be determined.
JetBlue did put out an email stating JetBlue pilots would be charged an assement after the award was scheduled to be greater than $500 million. After the system chief pilot was contacted about his FALSE and misleading email he agreed to not send out more innuendo based emails however he REFUSED to publicly set the record straight.
Based on this this is leading information 1193 chose to step over a dollar to pick up a dime and subsequently screwed us all.

Exactly but without the hot chicks. Seriously we have a pretty good group on the PVC right now. The only problem the PVC has no legal authority and cannot negotiate on our behalf. They can make reccommendations but that's it. In the end the company does what they want

Bingo! If only that good group had some legal footing for presenting arguments towards improvements. But I can tell you're already aware of the issues at hand, unlike some of your counterparts. Guess you'll need to continue to educate them. Best of luck to you!

The only thing I have heard ALPA reps promise is representation. Representation gives you an opportunity to negotiate. Right now JetBlue pilots take what they are given and that's it. But you already knew that and came to stir the pot. Come on in the water is warm.

I've yet to meet an Alpa member that would recommend Alpa, FYI

I've yet to meet an ALPA member that would rather be non-union then part of a union. They might not like ALPA but they would never give up representation entirely. Seriously, ask anyone these folks if they would trade representation for the direct relationship.

I've done just that, and I have yet to get a positive response from a single person. Quite the contrary.

ALPA has no doubt evolved into a mass represention of regional airlines as they CARELESSLY stamp their signature onto contracts that embarrass the pilot profession. Meanwhile, more and more airlines are giving ALPA the boot and choosing an in-house union.
The union vote was CLEARLY lost because of too many people being burned by ALPA national in the past. With all the mega mergers going on, a union aught to be fairly desireable right now....just gotta have a "healthy" union for the majority to vote Yes.
ALPA has a history of F---ING things up......JUST ASK ANYONE AT AIRTRAN.
And don't feed me a line of BULL$HIT that says their MEC was solely responsible. A deal that large, and ALPA national is essentially calling ALL the shots.

Its really hard to make ALPA fly at outfits like B6 and VX. Why? Because there are a boatload of pilots, mostly senior pilots who were furloughed from places like UAL, LCC, etc.
Wrongly, they blame ALPA for their furloughs instead of the companies they worked for. ALPA has never furloughed anyone. Don't try to tell that to them, though.
