A 3rd year FO on the Airbus 320 at JetBlue can pay more than a 30 year captain at USAirways.
3rd year pay is $82/hour
85 hour monthly "credit" (not block time)
One 7 hour daytrip a month picked up
10 hours of PTO time sold back at premium rates each month.
That's a total of 102 hours of credit.
78 hours of straight pay PLUS 24 hours of premium pay = 102 hours of credit.
78 hours at $82 an hour = $6,396
24 hours at $123 an hour = $2,952
20 hours a month of night overide = $260
Average monthly per diem = $550
Total for the month = $10,158
Total for the year = $121,896.....THANK YOU FLICA!!!
Average days off each month = 15
401K from pilot = $6,094
401K match from company = $12,189
Total into 401K = $18,284
USAirways 30 year Captain payrate on the Airbus 320 is $125/hour
75 hours of credit each month = $9,375
Slightly less per diem = $500 a month
Total for the month = $9,875
Total for the year = $112,500
Then subtract the union dues!
Looks like JetBlue's perks add up don't they? New hires? As-if, the new pilots at JetBlue didn't come from having spent years if not decades at other airlines. Hmmm....not bad for a 12 year old company.

And then just when your pleased to see your 10 hours of PTO in your paycheck you will break a leg or suffer some unfortunate injury that requires you to go on STD/LTD. Still going to use that PTO...no, because you sold it trying to make your monthly wage industry standard. Meanwhile your are paying for you insurance out of pocket and COBRA RATES for 18 months while you are using all your savings, 401K and any other retirement you may have just to survive.
The matra of the Jetblue pilot is short sightedness as indicated by the above mathematics.
The PTO system at Jetblue is set up to save Jetblue money and not benefit the pilot.

I think by 'flushed' he means they will all be called and given classdates. Everyone currently in the pool is good to go.

While I enjoy your fuzzy math you are now incapable of taking vacation or calling in sick because you have sold all your PTO to make your wage industry standard. Meanwhile the Usair pilot is still taking vacation and calling in sick because they have separate banks and are allowed accrual.

Need a week off for vacation...who else has automated trip trading to push days off together. We are elite with this function.
Feeling sick? Drop, UTO, or possibly put it on the automated tradeboard.
Break a leg? Out for a year? Lots of great Insurance policies for this, just gotta look for them.
Industry standard? $121,000 on 3rd FO pay for a young airline?! And on a realtively small Airbus 320?! Dayumn!!!

Ahhhh! A Naysayer! Your glass is half empty, mine is half full. However, I respect your negativity and short sighted was when it comes to being creative to solve the puzzles you mention! We need naysayers to keep things in the balance.

The average pilot in you peer set gets:
-More retirement
-Better medical benefits
-Better STD/LTD
-Vacation and sick bank that is signifigantly greater than your PTO annual accrual
And you are worried about paying 2%? Penny wise and pound fooilsh!

And absolutely, positively CLUELESS about how insurance works. Ignorance is truly bliss and his understanding of the problem speaks volumes of our pilot group.
Automated tradeboard and FLiCA? Seriously? Elite?
$121,000 for a 3rd year FO? Maybe, but you are never home. You aren't senior enough to hold day turns unless they are island red eyes.
It's funny how you can cloud the facts with whimsy.

$80 X 78 hours = $6240 + $480 (4 hours of premium) = 84 hours/ $6720 a month X 12 months = $80,640.
$121,000???? PUHLESE!! You're a liar and a crack smoker!
