I put sponsor in quotes because I really don't know if its a formal program or what, but as I understand it a letter will get you only so far, whereas a letter along with a personal visit to a chief pilot type will move your application to a shorter stack. Thats what my buddy did, he and the ACP went over my stuff and he said that I should get a call, that I was in a "short stack" of apps and to hang tight. Just wondering if others have had similar experiences with current CAL pilots pushing thier stuff for them. Its been about 4-5 months I guess since that went down.

same as Breckster.....I was told by a CAL employee that I was moved there....as for how many are in there??....mmm not sure....i actaully sat down with the person in June in IAH and they showed me how it all worked. I think there were a little bit more than 75ish in the folders where applicants are drawn from ......id say more like 200ish.....but then again i could be wrong and it was June....of course I dont know the numbers now.

There is no formal sponsorship program, however ( from a CP at CAL: they are only calling people with internal recs). So, thats what most people on here are talking about; ie: sponsor, insider etc....

the above is only what I personally have learned as I have been trying to get hired......I think things will really pick up later this month( well at least I am sure hoping! ) :-) Hope to see all of you there! and hope our phones start ringing! Good Luck to everyone!

agreed.....the person has to , in addition to writing an online rec, go into their CPs office and tell them about you.

As in my case, I was told that I was moved to a folder( computer folder) where applicants are picked from. I have no idea where in that folder I am, OR how they go about prioritizing people and picking them out of those folders. I would LOVE to know where I am in the line, but in the mean time I guess I just have to relax and wait.

I was told by the person helping me that I just had to "sit and play the waiting game now"

best of luck emb drvr!

Thanks GOArmy and Breckster. Great information! You've confirmed what I have learned also. At least it's consistent.

Otto,

When were you working on your master's degree? I can only assume it was after you started flying 121? Distance learning?

A few but very rare. I only know of one and his dad is a captain at CAL. He is a great guy but considers himself extremely lucky to beat the odds.

I've heard of some guys with 2 year degrees getting hired, but not 100% sure on that. Never heard of guys without any degree. Anybody in the know on the 2 year thing?

The reason I ask, someone wants me to write them a letter. Good pilot, good person, just a little short on the hours required for a degree. Guess it wouldn't hurt to write one, and let the higher-ups figure it out.

No college. 3 years at a regional. No family for inside help. Maybe 6000 hours. 25 yrs of age.

I'm 41 now and a 737CA. Holding 756 CA on last bid. Anything else you need to know?
