Considering that we're not even going to see an -800 on the property for a while and by the end of the contract we'll still have very few, I don't think it's that bad. I may never fly an 800 in the next two years but I still get the raise.
Wow. Hate to say it, but that cartoon about the -800 negotiations ended up being about right. Joe to company negotiator: "So you're saying you want us to fly the -800 for no more money?" Negotiator to Joe: "That's right Joe...pilots love to fly shiney new jets."

In a very general sense, I agree with you. But that's "all else being equal". I suspect there is an assumption among travelers that all professional airline pilots are a cut above and that most airlines strive to be safe. So that aside, then yes, ticket price is a driver. But if a carrier's pilots were shown in a high profile way to be substandard, I think that carrier would be avoided by a large percentage of travelers even if they had to pay a little more. Of course, there will always be those that would fly in an outhouse if the price were right.

Speak with your reps. Have a few questions and you may come away with a different perspective. The vote to send it to the membership is not the same as a vote in favor. The reps are a good place to start to become educated in the TA.

The public assumption is that we all make 250 grand, work 10 days a month, and are drunk at least 80% of the time we fly.

Pielut or whatever his name is seems to play right into that... airliners.net anyone?

They are just talking about union presidents.... if we can only educate the media to that, then maybe the public will realize that pilots are just like everybody else.

I don't believe there is any minimum profit sharing. Read some of the posts from SWA pilots.

They still need to demand a pay raise. We are all under paid. Dont look at hourly rate, look at how much u get paid flying one leg..
