SWAPA has a TA about the 737-800

The side letter would give a small raise on ALL of our flying (I think about 1% over what we previously had). It also extends our contract and adds a profitability based raise in the new last year. As the company has been doing very well lately, these profitability based raises could be 3% or more.
Considering that we're not even going to see an -800 on the property for a while and by the end of the contract we'll still have very few, I don't think it's that bad. I may never fly an 800 in the next two years but I still get the raise.

In a very general sense, I agree with you. But that's "all else being equal". I suspect there is an assumption among travelers that all professional airline pilots are a cut above and that most airlines strive to be safe. So that aside, then yes, ticket price is a driver. But if a carrier's pilots were shown in a high profile way to be substandard, I think that carrier would be avoided by a large percentage of travelers even if they had to pay a little more. Of course, there will always be those that would fly in an outhouse if the price were right.
