We're saying the same thing differently. Yes, ALPA is not always responsible for originating changes, but you can be sure they're in the middle of it when things are being changed. I'd rather have some say, then no say at all!

Your statement shows how clueless you are about the world we live in and the entire history of the profession and the attacks that continue virtually every day on every aspect of what we do. If we lose ALPA who is going to be your voice in the world? CAPA? They are a joke and don't spend enough money to buy a rookie Congressmen. Most of the time they don't even get into the room when important things are happening let alone a seat at the table. If ALPA goes away here is what you can look forward to in the next 5 years.
Jumpseat gone, It took a incredible amount of hard work on ALPA's part to get it back after 911. TSA wants it gone.
KCM will be gone. Another TSA hate.
Drug testing will go to the cheap needle blood test with no split samples like the original plan.
Non Rev travel and Jumpseat will be taxed as imputed income like almost ever other perks in business. It will kill commuting completely. Pack your bags and move every time marketing gets a whim!
All restrictions on foreign ownership will end. Cheap foreign airlines will be allowed to fly and carry passengers in the US. Your may not have a job when its over.
Rest rules will change again to what ATA wanted in the first place. Read their wish list and weep!
Full time cockpit video downlinked to flight ops and the FAA will become standard. Big Brother will be watching!
Those are just a few of hundreds of items ALPA fights every day. They pop up like a wack a mole game. The Non ALPA unions talk big but never put up any money to fight these items. Money talks, bull**** walks. They let ALPA handle it. ALPA wins some and the lose some but much like the CIA you never hear about most of their victories. You never hear about the bizarre legislation some congressman wants to introduce that ALPA manages to kill before it every makes the house floor like alcohol testing you before every leg you fly.
Its been a tough 12 years for airlines and a near perfect storm for management to attack us. I am amazed we have retained what we have you can thank ALPA for a lot of it. Take a national union out of the picture and the end result will leave every pilot weeping.
One last thing to consider is that all of the above does not even get into the issues of safety and the amazing things ALPA has pushed through over the history of this profession. Next time you look down at the TCAS think about it.

Dear TC,
If you are serious about wanting to boot ALPA, you simply must separate yourself from the DPA drive.
You have driven many, many potential volunteers, contributors, and card renewers (including me) to the sideline with your misguided communication and questionable leadership.
DALPA's impotence re: the Pinnacle contract should be a huge boost for the DPA. But it won't be, as long as you're in charge. Please step aside so we can finally free ourselves from ALPA and its completely irrelevant future.

What if.... we get rid of the ALPA warts, have C&BL amendments, keep the good... (Safety)... call it something new, invite the in houses unions to the new Brand... and move forward?

At this point, ALPA can't or won't enforce its own bylaws. I don't see any path to redemption.

Since we are talking about DPA again, how about the screw job their Block Seniority scheme does to the SLC pilots. Every block has a such a large group in Atlanta that SLC will probably not get a single voting rep. The same could be said for SEA, LAX, CVG, and probably MSP and NYC. Maybe DTW will get a few out of the 16.
Add on top of that the exit of SWAPA from CAPA and their idea of having some sort of national voice just went up in smoke (if SWAPA actually did leave CAPA).
Sporting a green bag tag is an intellectual statement - but not the good kind.
