My original post was moved. I thought I would repost since we now have the DPA thread back! We were discussing if DPA will stop the card drive once openers are exchanged. Below were mi dos centavos.
I believe DPA would be the best course for Delta Pilots. Having said that, at the very least, DPA=Leverage. Leverage against ALPA to do the right thing and fight for this group, rather than rewording management's talking points. Leverage against Management because it threatens their cozy relationship with our current association. I sincerely hope DPA continues its drive regardless. Section 6 has been continuing for years at many airlines, while the NMB sits idly by. What's the rush? If anything this pressure will expedite our contract. This division is a bunch of manure. Delta pilots will be unified regardless of who represents us.
One question about ALPA. Does anyone think if we were not part of ALPA, we would have any "meet and confer" obligations?

Yep., I am going !
An I do see a lot of green tags, not only in the lounge, but in the terminal as well.
My F/O, just sent in a card yesterday. Funny thing is, he asked me about the green tag on my bags, and said that he was joining

Chuck you are wrong on that one. My new hire number was 6450 ish in 2000. My OE first leg was a DC-9-10 with 76(?) seats in it. I watched the commuters expand as we at mainline sat on furlough. Some for 5+ years. All along we were told that the RJs were good for us, feeding mainline and all.
I am with Chuck on this one ACL. Usually you have some good posts, this one not so much.
In my opinion ALPA is broken. The question is can they be fixed or is it time to start over. I am not ready to send in the card yet, but I am ready to listen.

Just wondering if you sent in your card yet?

DPA when the decided to try and effect a union change looked at the issue of representation for Contract 2013. They came to a quite sensible conclusion that they only way they could adequately represent the pilots in this contract was to have the required cards on file by 31 Dec 2010 and be in place by the start of summer 2011. When it became apparent that they would not even be close to their stated goal they dropped that entire time line and section from their web page.
Why did they believe their first time line was valid and required?
Why was it deleted, what changed?

1: the DPA will (or at least thinks they will) have the required cards for a vote after 01 JAN 2011 and before C12K
2: they will call for the vote
3:and that the ALPA opener/rhetoric/"education"/etc effort won't be a defeatist "SWA is unattainable and we need to relax more scope so the mainline can grow" nonsense.
If those things materialize as many claim, then changing course during a disaster in progress that is about to cause irreparable harm to the DL pilots would still be worse than the issue of insufficient funding for a POS emergency 9-11 bankruptcy contract with partial cost of living adjustments and more scope sales. We can't afford to "properly fund" another 5% per year (even less than inflation) adjustment with more scope sales contract. If thats what ALPA has up its sleeve, it would actually be better to stop in place with zero funding (even if that is what would happen, which is of course a big if) than to further gut our own leverage out from under ourselves while cowering in defeat and admitting that SWA rates, rules and scope will cause liquidation when we all know that is a lie.

A friend out west said his LEC rep stated we would go for a 15% pay raise, total in the next contract. I trust him, and he was extremely frustrated. If true and it is in the opener, I predict a DPA roll over of ALPA. That opener is everything, and it better be a lot more than that 15% rumor. Where is that contract survey? I am ready darnit!
