Some do, not you that I know of Sailing, but some.

please find a slot in your next new hire class for pcl 128.... we have had enough of his b.s. over here and we sure don't need folks with attitudes like his in the shop for the sli gig coming up. He will look very nice in your breasted coat if you can find one big enough. Same go's for the hat!

Exactly. Some black helicopters are cool... and then some when seen just means your dead. I think its okay to be in awe of and fear of some black helicopters.

aren't they making a new Red Dawn?

I don't disagree with you. There is no way you could ever see DALPA pull out of ALPA National. Or could you?

How bad would ALPA National have to be in order to get DALPA to separate and go independent?

Default Union + Education = Unity

A Unified Pilot Group...great idea!!!

Let's start with EDUCATION...I would say that 80% of the Complete-The-Mission-Pilots I fly with have no idea what SWA makes, or any other airline for that matter. When you attempt to educate them, they give you the stink eye and pull out the Standard-Mission-ALPA answer: "yeah...but what about their work rules...pay isn't everything!" At that point it is useless to let them know that their work rules are way better too!

I don't blame them...It is ALPA's responsibility to educate the masses. For starters, maybe one of those highly paid secretaries at ALPA can create a document to put in our V files titled....."Comparing the DAL PWA to UPS, FedEx, ALK, AMR, SWA, JBLU"

This would be a first step towards unifying the pilot group towards a common goal. Until the entire group of pilots are educated and armed with information (specifically what is inside the PWA of our competitors), polls are useless in determining a starting point in 2012.

A former alpa unit used to do that exact thing, there was a comparison to all of the other carriers. I'm sure its been done at DALPA.

It has been done, and will probably be done again.

P2P is being started up again with the intention of it being a standing committee going forward. I too strongly beleive in education of the pilot group. I spend many LAYO's doing just that. You are correct, most guys do not know and many do not care. I do submit that the information is out there if you seek it. Websites like this have made it very easy for the lazy pilot to up his level of knowledge ten fold by just reading the back and forth.
Add to it what ALPA National is doing with the education committee, all of the e-mails DALPA sends out about contracts sections, Retirement and Insurance, etc, if one just keeps up on that reading their level of knowledge goes up a ton. It does take work though. Most just want the answer they need at the moment they need it though.

There was a website that had a lot of the union contracts compared. It was "light" but somebody did the leg work and I'm sure it will be expanded upon. Just don't remember what it was.

ACL,

I'm assuming you're responding to LandGreen2. P2P is a great idea if well executed except as I understand it, it's one on one. What we should be doing is something on a broader scale. Land proposes a handout or pamphlet or even a FTB type PowerPoint for those of us who like a bottom line.

ALPA is great about mushrooming the masses and saying trust us. OK, I'll trust but only after you show you're on top of things. The recent NPRM response was great in that regard, but how about a little less chest thumping in the magazine and an online education program as we go forward to C12.
