Delta Pilots Association

Ok,
When I checked yesterday 1 post now 20 pages. wow
I agree with 80 et al with sending in the card as a shot across the bow. I've lost trust in my reps and with DALPA because they are always telling me/us to trust them but show us no goods except carefully crafted arguments that leave out anything bad about DALPA/ALPA.
Not willing to "throw the baby out with the bathwater", but I've found the only way to get a bureaucrat's attention is to threaten their money. Even the threat of DAL leaving ALPA should get their full attention.
BTW won't be voting for a single incumbent in 66 this year. The entrenched have to go. Maybe DPA can be our version of the Tea Party. Get the dead weight out and let's get some representation that listens to the pilots!

its only a matter of time until underboob shows up on this thread.
Me: I am not sure it requires pages and pages to delineate what is good and bad about alpa. I dont like alpa because i am certain we dont get our moneys worth and the conflict of interest issue. There are phenomenally great things about alpa too: Aeromedical, ifalpa, size/lobbying, etc. The etc. May be repeatable by and inhouse and also may not be repeatable. Alpa in its current configuration is somehow morally broken from the top down. Maybe that is my biggest issue with them and one that i am reminded of every month when i get the rj pilot self-back-patting magazine.
I am tired of dalpa spin and expectations management, but i do believe the reps try to maintain a lookout for delta pilots adrift in the greater sea of airline "business". Do i think a new union will fix those issues: Not really, but i am willing to listen.
A wake up call is needed, but if it is just a "power grab" i'll stick with status quo.

I'll betcha they are on high warble now in Herndon though... on second thought.. probably not.

I'm a bit confused. Won't these be the same folks we have representing us now? U throwing out the local reps to? Frustration over national (RJ) policy is understandable, but your reps you have now, will be the same reps you'll have later (U voted for them right?)

I actually have no problem with my LEC reps. But somewhere between them and national, something is getting lost. I do not believe ALPA can represent us they way we want and need while they are representing regionals. I also think like any old and large organization, ALPA has lost sight of why it was formed. ALPA is all about taking care of ALPA.

The biggest problem with ALPA is the legal staff. I think you have many well intentioned pilots who go to National office hoping to make some changes and the lawyers there do everything they can to stop change. I have seen it first hand. I have been told by ALPA lawyers "we shouldn't fight because we might lose and then there will be a legal precedence to be used against us in the future." I am not speaking of some lowly CA either, I have heard that from lawyers at the top. These lawyers have been with ALPA for 20 or 30 years, talk about entrenched! If we could get rid of the lawyers we might be able to salvage the union.
I think ALPA has a great infrastructure but infiltration with the hopes of true change is all but impossible. At this point a clean slate is the best we can hope for.

Maybe we can use ALPA as a 'fee for service' entity. It's kinda analogous to the Small Jets and Majors. If that kind of outsourcing didn't kill the majors, why would it kill ALPA?

If you are a follower of the DALPA forum at all, you'll notice that VP #2 had a 5 page thread all dedicated to him and his, well, brashness towards his fellow co worker trying to give up a seat and ride the JS. I'd say someone like that is not a fairly good cross representation.
As the saying goes, "be careful what you wish for."
I'm grabbing another brew and some popcorn to continue watching this fun unfold.
