Well written. If we have a pilot population whereas 51% think like this we will be golden....

And what about all the other guys that had experience running the union in years past? I guess their experience counts for nothing? None of them would be willing to step up to the plate? They will be falling all over themselves for that opportunity because everyone at the top of this organization has a huge ego.. sorry.. but that's true and they all know it. There would be a bit of a power struggle, absolutely true.. but it would be for the benefit of the DELTA pilots..

And it appears that you are also saying that the guys now at the top are not expendable. If that is true... let's amend the terms of office part of the bylaws and have a recall to get Lee back because it seems that Armageddon is about to befall all of us.
You're right it's a power struggle. That's what this whole DPA thing is, a power struggle. Guys with huge egos who are not in charge and want to be. Would it T, be for the benefit of DELTA pilots? Or would it be for the benefit of those who started this?

Let me take some turpentine and wipe off some of the paint I just laid on with a wide brush. Not all supporters of DPA would fall into the above statement. Not all followers of movements are privy to the motives of the leaders of the movement, some just believe the rhetoric. I just look at the two biggest proponents here, Carl "wildcat strike" Spackler. I wouldn't follow that guy out of the Chilean mine shaft.

Is ALPA da bomb? No, like Tsquare I have big problems with some of Nationals policies and bloated ruling class parochialism. We do have a new President so something is bound to change.

I do know one thing, I and the bottom 1000 or so pilots have Lee Moak and DALPA's innovative forward thinking to thank for my job. After numbers like last year, what is the historical reaction to airline management? FURLOUGH! Do you think Capt Courageous would have forced Delta not to furlough anyone? Fat chance.

I'm sorry if I peeved anyone off or hurt anyone's feelings. I figure I'm entitled after all the other crap that gets tossed against the wall around here.

An EXCELLENT point! Why are all the ALPA apologists here running so scared that they stoop to scare tactics from the very beginning? Why not one single post that has said: "We welcome the challenge and look forward to the opportunity to show our ALPA brothers and sisters that their continued confidence in our union is deserved." Instead, a list of cliches and scare tactics.

I think ALPA already is an RJ union Scoop. I truly believe they've already made that choice...they're just mad that some of us have noticed.

Moderators, is this the kind of person that should be a moderator of an APC thread? This kind of blatant rumor mongering and inuendo is OK for a plain old poster, but not a moderator.

You should resign this moderator position to someone else acl. You should be ashamed.

Not trying to negotiate in public but......
What leverage or ammunition will DPA give us over ALPA. Being the 2nd largest airline in the WORLD.... do you really think the threat of self help would actually be realized? ALPA's biggest problem is that with us and UAL/CAL any chance of a release is a pipe dream. Time for the boys and girls and Herndon to start getting real creative.

That's all you do is defend the status quo. If DPA is our new union and becomes the status quo, you'll defend that.

To argue against an association that is not here yet because you don't think it will be better...even though there is no way to know that - IS the definition of defending the status quo. I would say wise up...but you're hopeless.

Another hard hitting opinion from acl. Why don't you offer up a resolution stating that you want ALPA to fix their "issues"? That should do it.

While it doesn't directly answer your question, here's APA's President's blast from October 18. Note the statement highlighted in red. Lloyd Hill never acknowledged the ALPA consulting services APA used.

President’s Opening Remarks, 2010 Fall Board of Directors Meeting

Members of the Allied Pilots Association,

Our new administration has now been in office just a little over 100 days. We are very pleased to report that for this period, we have accomplished everything we set out to do—and quite a bit more.

As the master blueprint to guide our efforts, we can report that the strategic plan the APA Board of Directors adopted almost a year ago is running on all cylinders.

Our work to re-man and rebuild the entire APA committee structure is nearing completion. In areas such as Professional Standards, Training, Safety, Government Affairs and others, we plan to intensify our efforts and move those committees to new levels of activity and effectiveness.

Our newly created Industry Analysis Committee is picking up steam and will no doubt be an increasingly valuable asset as we pursue the completion of the contractual bargaining process.

Working diligently and creatively, we have streamlined our business practices and staff and already found hundreds of thousands of dollars in savings as we evaluate every aspect of our organization to find ways to do things more efficiently to fulfill our responsibility to utilize our dues income wisely and appropriately.

We have reached out and met with all levels of AMR management and developed the foundation for a professional business relationship with the corporation. Responding positively to an initiative proposed by the APA President, AMR and APA have been working diligently to resolve grievances which have been languishing for years. Working cooperatively with the new Vice President of Flight, we have already resolved several individual pilot grievances that helped pilots with monetary remuneration and other unique situations.

Our relationships with the other organizations we participate in are strong and vigorous. These include the Coalition of Airline Pilot Associations (CAPA) and the Oneworld Cockpit Crew Coalition (OCCC).

We are very pleased to announce that our talks with the Air Line Pilots Association (ALPA) have borne fruit in many areas where we have pledged mutual cooperation, including ALPA’s generous offer to provide APA access to ALPA’s extensive capabilities in the area of economic and financial analysis and other related services. It is safe to assert that the relationship between ALPA and APA is the best it’s been in decades. Working together, we can advance the profession far more than acting as competitors.

Notwithstanding our progress, the challenges before us are formidable. The current FAA Notice of Proposed Rulemaking on flight time-duty time could turn out to be a major improvement in eliminating many exhausting scheduling practices, or it may turn out to be disasters in the making, if the most onerous of the economically driven reductions to safety are allowed to be adopted. This challenge will intensify in the weeks and months to come.

Of the many other major issues before us, we must endeavor to uphold the minimum experience standards for new-hire pilots, and we must also work for positive change to federal bankruptcy laws to prohibit companies from robbing employees of hard-fought bargaining gains and pensions that were earned over decades of service. Our efforts to defend Scope, to defend our collective bargaining agreement and to protect the welfare of our pilots are ongoing on a daily basis. We must be diligent to monitor the consolidation now taking place in the industry and take steps to protect ourselves in the event of any merger involving American Airlines.

And first and foremost, contract negotiations must remain our top priority. The challenges here are considerable, given the fragility of the U.S. economy and how far behind we have fallen. The pilots at this airline have spoken loud and clear that they will settle for nothing less than career restoration and we are committed to delivering a contract the pilots will be proud to ratify.

Thank you for your time and your trust in allowing us to serve.

Captain Dave Bates FO Tony Chapman FO Scott Shankland
