Leaving JBLU for SWA ?
#103
Resurrecting this thread - I realize it is 7 years old but both companies have changed enough that I think the question warrants a second look.
If you had to answer the same question today as the original poster did, how would you answer?
I think his general conditions were:
- 40 YO
- complex commute (to domiciles with either company)
- Been with jB less than a year

JMHO, standing by for the SWA crowd to throw grenades at me....

As for anemic growth, they are building a $150 million international terminal at Hobby. I personally find it hard to believe that that terminal, which is beginning service in 2015, will pull aircraft away from profitable domestic routes to provide lift for international destinations in anything other than the short term to test the waters. If the international venture proves to be an epic failure then the anemic growth scenario may be plausible.

No grenades, just some clarification. They are not getting rid of 88 airplanes, they are upgauging 88 airframes.

Thanks......... The way I read that though, since you are parking any remaining 717s in Jan 2015, even if you take the options, you will be net down on fleet count. And that is assuming that you are keeping all of the aircraft currently in the fleet. You won't be back to level until sometime mid 2015 assuming a smooth delivery schedule... or is there something I am missing?

Air Berlin -700
2 already on property, I know that is a small number but we have pushed back the deliveries to get more Max airplanes and get -700 on the used market way cheaper than we can buy new.
At least that is the line management is using. I too will believe when I see. Sorry to the applicants and fence sitters, my crystal ball has a crack in it.
We are dealing with a lot of sh t here.

Is lack of a quick upgrade (compared to other legacies) the only downside?
If you take that variable away, would that sway people to consider leaving jetBlue for SWA. - or does it simply depend upon where you live? Or a few extra $$ per hour.
My wife asked, "what are you chasing?" And I'm afraid I don't have a good answer.

To me what anyone would chase is being senior enough to have the days off you want, drive to work and live in a place you are happy. Make enough money to make you happy, have a nice retirement income, and be able to sleep at night knowing that it will most likely continue until retirement. What color of the jet you fly or type is really not that important.
