because as a wholly owned we can change their flying virtually at will, which we can't do with outside subcontractors. example, being stuck with CHQ in ORD now.

because as a wholly owned we have control of the product and can ensure brand protection. As we discovered with the return of aircraft from the outsource company TSA, the planes were not maintaind up to AMR or FAA standards, and they were carrying our passengers on tickets we sold them.

because if we incorporate it into AA, we will be able to advertise ourselves as the only major airline NOT using cheap regional airlines to carry our passengers. May explain why they have been removing "regional jet" from the eagle jets.

because if we continue using outsourced regionals we will always be under the gun to allow ever larger planes... if we comsolidate them, all flying becomes AA-APA flying.... right on down to ATR turboprops.

oh, how many planes does eagle have now? if we consolidate them, do we recoup our position as largest in the world again? For the Dallas TX mentality running this show, that alone would be reason enough to do it.

just a few quick thoughts... I'm sure there are more reasons.

Your solution continues the slow death spiral the industry has been under for decades. Consolidation doesn't

I guess that's why AMR is trying to dump Feagle.

I see you're point, but I wouldn't hold AMR up as the poster child for maintaining aircraft to FAA standards...at least as long as there's a $24M fine against them.

And wasn't Eagle cited for something as well....?

If AMR were genuinely trying to sell Eagle we would have read about it in the papers after the sale was finalized. (Just as we did with all the sales that actually took place.) There is a reason for this spectacle of Eagle's Sale. I don't claim to know their motivation, but it's not to actually sell Eagle.

the banks are suppose to release their commitments in the next 2 weeks followed by the company disclosure the 1st week of Oct. If nothing happens then I will agree with you but either way it will not be a long wait.

Any airline with more than 10 planes could probably get cited and fined on any day if the FAA really tried. And I am talking about the airlines that are trying hard to do it right! Up against the myriad of paperwork and regulations, it is amost impossible, despite the most prudent efforts, to keep an aircraft maintained to the required standards. AA or Eagle being fined for something related to maintainance doesn't necessarily mean they are doing a bad job. Things are not always as they appear.

No, I don't work for either in the MX department, nor do I have any insider info. Just making an observation.

School house says they are recalling 16 ground instructors and 8 Sim-p's. Lot's of rumors about recalls Jan 1. I'll be the first to admit I'm a skeptic, but this time they may mean it.

Why recall all the instructors if they aren't going to recall? They are 737 instructors right?

I guess they could be accelerating the retirement of the MD-80 fleet and replacing them with 737s but would they need so many instructors to do that?

They have recalled 737 and 777 instructors, in fact, I believe they have recalled all instructors who were laid off. Like I said, a school house ramp-up is a good sign.
