I seriously doubt if there's much care prior to the 121 world in regards to failures. There are way too many variables. I was an instructor when our flight school went from using DPE's to our own chief pilot giving "stage checks" at the end of 141 training for students to recieve their tickets...essentially unfailable. Before 121 world, you might be pt 61 with 10 diff. instructors with diff. meathods to get your 7 ratings (pp-mei). In a 121 environment, things are much more evened out. Everyone has had/will have a bad day at some point. A good employee is more valuable than considering a busted ride 10 years ago during your PP check.

I disagree, an acciedent and/or incident would probably disqualify you inmediately at present, but a busted check-ride probably not... I busted my CFI ceck-ride about 10 years ago, in 6-7 interviews nobody ever asked me about it....

I have an incident on my record because of a mechanical failure on a CRJ but if anything the situation and outcome should work in my favor considering how it all worked out and the fact that it was entirely mechanical with nothing we could have done to prevent it. (We were even thrown a party by the company and given awards for our performance!) But unfortunately metal was bent and paint came off. I am just hoping that I won't get weeded out by the computer program. I meet all the other requirements and have two internal rec's. I did bust my upgrade the first time on a technicality but I own it and learned from it. Would just love to work for Big D but hate to be overlooked because of a box I have to check on the app.

1 busted mil flt eval (many years back) - clear cut, legit bust. I screwed up.
Reportable incident - big damage (actions did not contribute to mishap - actually saved ac).
Both reported on airlineapps.
Invited.
Asked about both in interview. Asked to elaborate on checkride - I did.
Offered job.
Bottom Line: As always, be honest and let cards play.

When I was prepping for my interview I took everything that I could ever think of that was a negative, even if there was really no way they'd bring it up, and I worked it over. I acted like the panel interview was going to be with some very mean people who didn't want to hire me- which is not the case but thats how I prepped.
I wrote down my answer, spun it, and worked it over and over verbally just so my mouth didn't lead me down a path I couldn't get out of.
