Default CAL recalls

Looks like CAL plans on recalling some furloughs as of today. New bid out to be executed next week.

There are 15 vacancies, but the actual number of recalled furloughs could be higher depending on how the bid pans out.

Just hearsay but a friend that is an IP at CAL says ALL furloughed CAL pilots will be getting recalled!

Email from a CAL ACP (furlough coordinator):
"Finally some good news to pass on to you. The new system bid shown in the attachment includes 15 recalls. This equates to the pilots in the most senior furloughed class. The bid also reflects the effective return of 111 pilots due to pilots returning from COLA's, and the results of the termination of the LTVRF and RFL programs. While this isn't bringing everyone back, it is certainly a move in the right direction. As I mentioned in my last blastmail, we were not initially expecting any recalls on this bid. I also mentioned that at that time that plans change right up until the very last moment and there was always a possibility that there could be some recalls. I also mentioned that we would most likely bring all of the furloughed pilots back at the same time, and that turned out not to be true as well. But I will happy to be wrong if it means bringing back 15 sooner than I had expected.

Those of you being recalled will receive official notification from the company shortly, I just wanted to be the first to give you the good news. Welcome back.

For those of you not recalled, this is still good news in that progress is being made toward bringing you back as well. Once again the next bid comes out in August. It is too early to speculate at this time on what that might bring, but I think it is fair to say that the outlook for the future is getting better based on the current recall. Hang in there."

My opinion: 15 is better than none, but it still leaves 132 on the street. Even with 111 COLAs coming back, CAL pilots will be flying 85 hour line values this summer, getting double pumped on reserve, and getting their days off rolled. If our work rules weren't third world, I would expect everyone to be recalled by now. Of course, there's till a few open time *****s.

Having said that, I am thankful for the MAJORITY of CAL pilots who took all their vacation, didn't answer their phone when not working, didn't pick up open time, or volunteered for COLA/VRF. Without you guys, it would be worse.

Great news!

Continental recalling some furloughed pilots - Yahoo! Finance

HOUSTON (AP) -- Continental Airlines Inc. said Tuesday it is recalling the first pilots among a group that was furloughed in 2008. The carrier expects to rehire the rest within a year.

The company said it is also bringing back 111 pilots who took voluntary leave or other measures designed to limit the number of furloughs in 2008 and 2009.

"We see this as an encouraging sign and one of the first steps in recalling all of our 147 pilots currently on furlough in a year," Continental spokeswoman Julie King said.

King said the moves were made possible because Houston-based Continental will be adding two new Boeing 777 aircraft this fall, increasing its international flights from Guam, and replacing pilots who are retiring.

Jay Pierce, chairman of the Continental chapter of the Air Line Pilots Association, said his group was pleased with the recalls.

Pierce said that with new aircraft, an improving economy and expectations for more passenger travel during the summer, "the return of our furloughed pilots -- all of them -- is needed to maintain the level of service that Continental is known for."

Nope, the good ol' companyunion playing along like sheep aviators.

I look forward to the day when there is a real union on the property that begins with UAL!

PS It would have actually killed the company to recall all the furloughees. Bow to the master, bow.

I don't understand why they terminated the furlough mitagation plans (COLA/VRF)...shouldn't they wait until furloughs are recalled to end these measures. A furlough is not an event that takes place at one moment of time, it runs the duration that a member is on the street. Enabling pilots back from the street is just as important as mitagating them going to the street. It sounds like their should have been 111 more pilots recalled during this go....too bad

Unfortunately it was plainly written in the Furlough Mitigation LOA that the furlough mitigation measures would end upon the reflection of an indeterminate amount of recalls in a system bid. It was not written that the measures would terminate upon every furloughee being back on property.

This bid only covers the 15 being recalled. How about the 111 COLA/LTVRF being recalled or numbers that recall the additional 132?
