CAL recalls
#11
Per an email from one of the ACPs (posted above), I think the bid also includes the 111 COLA & LTVRF being recalled. But I think the COLAs have an option to extend (but I'm not sure how long of an extension).

Email from a CAL ACP (furlough coordinator):
"Finally some good news to pass on to you. The new system bid shown in the attachment includes 15 recalls. This equates to the pilots in the most senior furloughed class. The bid also reflects the effective return of 111 pilots due to pilots returning from COLA's, and the results of the termination of the LTVRF and RFL programs. While this isn't bringing everyone back, it is certainly a move in the right direction. As I mentioned in my last blastmail, we were not initially expecting any recalls on this bid. I also mentioned that at that time that plans change right up until the very last moment and there was always a possibility that there could be some recalls. I also mentioned that we would most likely bring all of the furloughed pilots back at the same time, and that turned out not to be true as well. But I will happy to be wrong if it means bringing back 15 sooner than I had expected.
Those of you being recalled will receive official notification from the company shortly, I just wanted to be the first to give you the good news. Welcome back.
For those of you not recalled, this is still good news in that progress is being made toward bringing you back as well. Once again the next bid comes out in August. It is too early to speculate at this time on what that might bring, but I think it is fair to say that the outlook for the future is getting better based on the current recall. Hang in there."
My opinion: 15 is better than none, but it still leaves 132 on the street. Even with 111 COLAs coming back, CAL pilots will be flying 85 hour line values this summer, getting double pumped on reserve, and getting their days off rolled. If our work rules weren't third world, I would expect everyone to be recalled by now. Of course, there's till a few open time *****s.
Having said that, I am thankful for the MAJORITY of CAL pilots who took all their vacation, didn't answer their phone when not working, didn't pick up open time, or volunteered for COLA/VRF. Without you guys, it would be worse.

The real question: where will you fit in with the 1,500 UAL guys? Supposedly, the SLI "snapshot" was taken a while ago - before CAL announced any recalls. So the 147 of us are in a gray area. Anyone hired after us is in a really gray area.

Actually, if history is any indicator, anyone on furlough in the snapshot will get stapled. The reasoning is that furloughees bring no job to the table. So it'll be some kind of SLI with active pilots, furloughs and then new hires. If there are too many pilots, the new hires will be the first ones out the door.

As has been posted before, the ALPA merger policy was amended after the US Air and Delta mergers to include longevity. Continentals merger committee chairman I believe was instrumental in this change coming about. It was intended to prevent pilots with numerous years of longevity from being stapled.

This is setting up a really bad US Airways-like situation. The reason the NWA/Delta merger went well between the pilot groups was because everyone kept their job. Not only that, Delta is now going to hire pilots making the SLI even easier to accept.
